  • Bike Buying Advice

    Hi,

    My requirements are as follows:

    Engine: 150-200 cc
Should be powerful enough to cruise at 80-100 kmph
    No Vibrations
    Butter smooth riding
    Pillion Comfort
Usage will be around 1000 kms per month
    City is Chennai.

    My shortlisted ones are:

    New:
    Apache RTR 160 4V
    Apache RTR 200

    Used:
    Duke 200
    CBR 250R

    Custom Bike Option:
Buy an old Duke 200 and contact someone like jcmoto to customize the bike with a scrambler style flat set along with refining the engine.

Pls help me to decide on it.

Don't go for Duke 200 as pillion comfort is zero. Go for used CBR 250 as it ticks all your requirements. But make sure to inspect the motorcycle thoroughly before purchase. Apache rtr 200 race edition is also very good as it comes with slipper clutch as standard, optional dual channel ABS, choice of tyres and it is value for money product. But pillion comfort and engine refinement may not be comparable with cbr. So I would suggest you to stick with either Apache rtr 200 race edition or used CBR 250.

Thank for the advice. I ll start lookimg for used cbr.

I had seen some articles which shows duken200 converted into a scrambler like seats. Some garages like jcmoto.in does this kind of custom bikes. They look apealling as well.

Your opinion on this as well pls...

Consider brand new r 15s with unibody seat.

            Re: Bike Buying Advice

Among the new bikes, always go for the most powerful one that comes in your budget. That means the RTR200 should be the obvious choice. Looks great, is nimble on the city roads and have enough power to keep you happy on the open highways.

Among the used ones, I would advice you to only go for a used one if you personally know the previous owner. Bikes like Duke are usually revved and abused like anything. There are good riders of course, but most are road side romeos who rev the nuts off it and then when the service, maintenance and spare parts cost a lot they decide to sell it off. Such bikes are nothing but headache for the second user. So be very careful when buying a used performance bikes like duke, R15 or CBR.

            Other options are
Gixxer SF with optional ABS. A good city bike and a stable at highway journeys.
If you can digest the plain and simple looks of the new Xtreme200 with optional ABS, then it too is a good bike.
Pulsar200NS is a proven and tested naked bike.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Xtreme 200 comes with abs as standard feature, just like duke 390.

A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Saw a cbr 150r for sale earlier today.

The dealer said that it should be rebored.
What would be the approx. Cost for replacing the bore instead of reboring it?

Don't buy, parts availability will be a concern, buy a new bike. Why you want to buy a defective bike, buy 2nd hand r 15 if you're tight on budget, yamaha parts will be available, since R 15s is still in production [emoji106]
