  • One bike for all the roles!

    Hello xbhp!

A bike has to be used for too many roles:

    Sprinting (the Dukes)
Showoff (all the full-faired /semi-faired bikes)
    City riding(FZ250, REs, Apache 200)
Long distance riding- tall gears, wind blast, seat comfort, sitting position, good cooling system etc (Himalayan, CBR, ZMR, REs etc)
Good fuel efficiency (ZMR, FZ250, Pulsar 220, Apache 200 etc)
    Casual off-roading/soft-roading (Himalayan, Impulse etc)
    Low maintenance

I know there is no one size fits all, but What bikes according to you come close to being so.

Dukes are pretty good and with added mods , Touring will be good.
They tick the all as you mentioned, except FE.

*But going on 390 will be better as 200 and 390 delivers closer to 30-35 mileage.
        * Anyhow driving under limited speeds ,you can see the FE range of 40kmpl.

        CBR 250 :

Decent buy but it's outdated and costlier!

Ground clearance is less and off- roading capability is not great with Poor mileage .

        PULSAR 220 :

        ' THE KING '

Definitely an eye catcher with touring capability and stress free engine.

Offers good FE (if you need a decent FE then blindly go with this)

        Cheaper price (Rs. 115K )

An updated version with ABS will be launched soon within JAN 2019.

Thank you for your 2 cents!
Pulsar 220 is actually the king.. I think their is only two more bikes which can challenge the 220... Apache 200 and FZ250/Fazer 250..
The most versatile title still would go to fz25 ... i mean its got everything..

Not bad ,but the Apache and FZ25 aren't powerful as they got 20BHP and not much eager on roads.

Anyhow choose the best ,if you can wait for few months Pulsar 220 ABS will be the bet !!!

              Choose wisely,

              Ride safe.

                    Wow nice choice [emoji106]

Do you have tried or any choice for other bikes ?

I have bought Apache 160 4v today and it's pretty good in all aspects!

(Once I was being hatred of TVS and apaches lol !)

                    What's your budget ?

Fz250 is quite eager(only bested by duke 200,250) and none else below 250cc single cylinder. It has the perfect stroke length @58mm. even apache 200 has 58mm(but its 200cc so resultant power is lower). 58mm is ofcourse my personal favourite. anything above 61mm you increase the low end torque but you take away eagerness to revv quickly and lose rapid acceleration as a result. anything less than 56mm, you give it good revvability but you take away low end torque. you can check a thread in my signature where i interpreted the power curves @ various stroke lengths. best strokes to get best of all worlds(low, mid, high end torque, quick revvability, good mileage) are 58mm to 60mm both inclusive. Apache 310 @ 62mm stroke revvs quickly and to a higher limit because of quality of engineering that has gone into it. Otherwise pulsar 220 @ 62mm is not bad but still is low on quick revvability.

Wayyyyyy out of budget Plus the problem is maintainence cost. easy to buy, difficult to run. Low mileage, expensive spares, expensive service. maybe 5-6 years down the line.

Both of them being fully faired bikes lose out on the offroading criteria. ZMR is still fine because i currently own one but The suspension on the cbr is too hard for even soft roading.

Re: One bike for all the roles!

                        If I was you, I'd pick up the FZ 250 for the reasons below;

                        1. Air cooled engine - easy on the pockets
                        2. Proven & bulletproof engine - Google XT 250
                        3. Naked - easy driveability, upright riding position puts less load on the spine, long-term rideability

                        Con's

                        1. No LC, engine does need a break every 300 kms or so, else sluggishness creeps in.
                        2. No ABS
                        3. Lacklustre looks
                        4. Torchlight aka headlights.

I do have a KTM and a friend owns the FZ, even though the KTM's are faster, the FZ's are trouble free in the longer run.

Despite the con's if at all I want to put my money on a modern do it all sorta bike, it will be FZ 250 hands down.

P.S. There's nothing as one for all. It's just a final derivation of push and pull that brings to what you choose.
