  • Confused in choosing a middleweight bike with pillion comfort for touring

    Hello Everyone,

Have been looking for a middleweight bike with excellent pillion comfort for touring and weekend rides, I wont be using it for daily commute. If Budget is not a problem there are many bikes in this category, however I am looking for within 5 Lakhs On road range. My searches mainly focuses for a bike above the TNT 300 or R3 category and something below the Bonneville's within my budget, at the same time should provide good pillion Comfort.

I have done few researches and ended up asking the price quote of Vstrom 650, dropped that idea as its not in my budget. Kindly provide me any other suggestions.

    Requirements:
    1. Budget friendly
    2. Pillion comfort
    3. Touring & weekend Rides
    4. Power above 50 Bhp
    5. Cost effective Service & Maintenance

Bikes I planned to finalize if available in my Budget : (There are few that doesnt match the above requirements, advice me on the negatives please)
    1. RE Interceptor 650
    2. Ninja 400
    3. Honda CB500x (Not yet launched)-No official news from honda as of now.
    4. Duke 790

Any suggestions are most welcome, my choices might be idiotic and eccentric, due to which i suffer on the decision factor.

Hello Murali, that's a big dilemma that you're in right now. However, let me try to help you with a few things here.

Seems a good move by RE considering their bad image now right from the QC issues with Himalyan till the orphaned Pegasus owners. This might be an image refresher for RE if it is well built unlike it's siblings. The signature exhaust note with a 270 deg firing interval is to die for. However, as you've owned an RE you would be knowing it's a terrible decision to get the bike in the first lot. It's always, the third or the fourth production lot that would be trouble-free as the company would've ironed almost all the issue reported by the customers who were willing to be RE's guinea pigs.

Great bike to look at and can sit there and keep staring at her all day. Just that for a little bit of moolah here you can get the Z650. Better in all aspects.

Ok, why not pre-owned bikes? With a sum of 5L in hand, you can get a beautiful...beautiful CBR 650F or a deeper search would get you a Versys 650 for about 6L. Both are bigger, better and definitely VFM for a pre-owned bike where you don't have to shell out what the previous owner did. You just enjoy the benefits.

Hi bro, sorry for the late reply. Thank you for the inputs, cbr650 is a wonderful bike I had in mind, I have asked the dealer and got info that the bookings are stopped now for cbr650f . Going to look for preowned bikes now, will update you if any luck favors me . Thanks again for the valuable time .

Im happy to say that my new ride is a CBR650f 2018 model, after reading the ownership reviews and based on discussions in the forum, also with some friends made me to go with this decision. This is a test ride bike in chennai which has clocked 873 kms during delivery (Showroom owner has taken it to bangalore once, 5 to 6 test rides overall thats it), it was as good as new.

Hi Murali. Congrats on your new acquisition . I wish you a happy and safe riding .
Just curious to know the price you paid for the bike.
Even I am in a same dilemma of choosing a middle weight bike. Right now I have zeroed on Kawasaki Ninja 650 but still open for any other alternatives.

Since it was a test ride bike registered in May 2018 paid 7.6 L for it. They have already done 1st service by that time, before giving delivery they completed 2nd service and gave it to me. This is the last test ride bike to be sold i believe out of showrooms all over india, except delhi i enquired all showrooms and everyone have sold their test ride bikes and not taking any new bookings now. Next year the CBR650R is said to be launched, but i felt its riding position more sporty and might end up more than 9 L due to the added features.
