  • HF Deluxe vs Splendor+ vs CT100 vs Honda CD110

I am looking for a fuel-efficient primary motorcycle, as I already have FZ & Discover 125 (Nov 2005) both return only -30 kmpl in the city.

Please tell me which of these should have most fuel efficiency and cost-efficient in long term ownership say 10 years:

    HF Deluxe
    Splendor+
    CT100B
    Honda CD110

    Other suggestions also welcome

Go for hf deluxe eyes closed. My father owns a hero honda cd deluxe 2006 model and completed 1.6 lakh kms on odo. He bought the bike for Rs.37000 on road price during that time. Trust me its worth every single penny. Not even a single engine work has been done so far and still gives mileage of 65kmpl. As far as major replacements so far, we have replaced chain sprocket set twice, clutch plate once, both of the tyres once and exhaust pipe once. My father never gives it for regular service and do not even change engine oil at regular intervals. Still starts with a single kick start in cold mornings even after days of idle and no missing problem either. He just fills petrol and check tyre pressure once in 10 days. Its basically a FILL IT, SHUT IT AND FORGET IT bike. But he rides only at the speeds of 35kmph to 45kmph and I believe that is the reason for long engine life. Best bike for city commutes IMO. I am not sure about the newer models of cd deluxe launched after Honda's split from hero especially the bs4 and i3s ones. But still I think HF deluxe should be reliable than other bikes out there.

        Thanks vengymgen for quick reply....

Compare to New vehicle cost vs. Fuel money saved on new vehicles better mileage .... Is that really economy???

I would advise against going for a Hero product atm. I use a 2015 Hero Splendor Pro, which uses the same engine as HF Deluxe and Splendor+ (no spec difference at all). It's a Hero derived engine and not the reliable one as compared to the golden age HH versions. Mine has rune about 34,033 on ODO has been having some quality control issues. Even after riding very conservatively and carefully, the following consumables are about to be changed on my bike: New Clutch Plates, New Chain and Sprocket, Front Tyre (TVS; stock) and then there's occasional changing of plugs as early as 10k intervals. The fiber parts aren't as good and Hero charges you or to put it, forces you to buy Rs 1800 worth of accessories (which includes a Helmet or sidebox). It may be a bit too much to expect from a commuter bike but it's nowhere was good as the old HH bikes (I own a CD 100; 1995 model). And the last part, these bikes refuse to give a FE above 65 or even close of that in the most ideal riding conditions as well. The OTR price for HF Deluxe starts at 59k to 60k and Splendor is about 62k. These aren't the HH bikes which had the tag of "FILL IT, SHUT IT AND FORGET IT".

Now, my suggestion would to go with CD Dream 110. Why? I'm a previous CB Twister and CD 110 uses the same engine with a slight bump in torque figure. It's not much of a looker when compared to HF Deluxe. Where does this bike shine (literally)? The Honda engine is smoother and the day I spent with a dream series bike (Dream Yuga), I got a more enjoyable ride than my Splendor Pro. The shifts are smooth and the engine noise keeps you happy. The acceleration is linear and higher torque makes it easy to ride in city conditions without shifting much when surface changes. Splendor has a lower torque at (8.05Nm; compared to 9.05Nm on CD 110). This is one maintenance free bike from what I've seen. My friend who owns the Yuga has ridden for 40K+ KMS and the only consumables he has changed are the tyres and engine oil. And not to mention that the bike gives about 65kmpl (at lowest). And this isn't my first experience with a Honda bike. I also own a Unicorn 150, which gives me about 55kmpl over sensible riding.

My verdict: Choose the Dream CD 110. Test ride both and you'll observe the difference and then get back to me. And you don't really need to ride any of those bikes at 35km/hr to extract maximum FE. You can ride as good as 50km/hr and you should be okay on the FE side.
