  • 300 cc bike for touring and city riding

    Hi guys,

I currently have a Suzuki Gixxer SF. I am thinking of upgrading to a 300 cc bike. It should be comfortable for both city riding and touring. My budget is around 3 lakhs and planning to buy in Q1 2019. Please provide your suggestions and recommendations.

My selections are: KTM 390 Duke, Yamaha R3 (2019), Yamaha MT-03 if it's launched or Kawasaki Z250 (2019).

I had the same goals like you - getting a comfortable 300cc motorcycle.

But as it turns out, companies don't aim for comfort while designing below 600cc motorcycles. They aim for maximum style, power and handling to attract first time buyers.

Out of all the options you have mentioned, only N250 is a little comfortable, and it's only comfortable when compared to the others in your list otherwise it doesn't count as comfortable bike normally. The other 3 in your list are extremely sports oriented bikes with lean-ahead riding posture HENCE there's no comfort at all!

Not trying to be condescending, but do you even know how to sit on lean-ahead sports bikes like R15, cbr etc? You don't put your body weight on the wrists, you have to hug the tank with your knees tightly and keep your lower back muscles tightened so as to remove all the weight from the wrists. Then you use your hands AS IF you are steering a car, by using counter-steering technique.
Now do you think that counts as comfortable from any standards? I don't wish to ride sports motorcycles for more than 10 kms ever. Sure there are crazy guys doing a 1000 kms on R1 etc but they don't know what kind of injury their backs are withstanding because they are too adrenaline-high to be thinking about that.

So my suggestion to you is to either buy a cruiser in your budget, or to increase you budget to buy comfortable sports tourers like N650, Benelli 600GT, CBR650F, Suzuki Bandit etc.

Try z 250 abs and RR 310. A naked bike is more comfortable than a sports motorcycle. Also you'll get twin cylinder smoothness in z 250 .

Why not an Interceptor 650 with a lil stretch in the budget?

Is there any idea of new z250 launch in India?

I like modern sports bike than retro style bikes. That why I excluded 650 twins.

have you bought? if not, here is the list you can go for.

                    1. CBR 250R
                    2. CB 300R (Newly Launched)
                    3. Domniar 400
                    4. Duke 390
                    5. Ninja 300 (twin cylinder)
                    5. Z250 (twin cylinder)
                    6. Benelli TnT 300 (twin cylinder)

I think all bikes are good for touring & city riding both. But in my point of view Dominar is the most VFM among them.
                    CBR250R (Repsol Edition) 2018-Current
                    Karizma R (Sold) 2015-2018
                    Splender NXG (Sold) 2009-2015

Better go for kawasaki ninja 300... As it have a good power and riding posture. As well easy to maintain and pocket friendly spares... Also the spares are now made in India so they have become cheaper than before....
