    Bike Buying Advice - Moving from KTM Duke 250 to Dominor 400

    Hello everyone,

    I have KTM Duke 250 and I have done 20k Kms in 1 year.

    KTM Duke 250 had issues like :
    1. Seat was not comfortable on long rides. I have tried Ride On Air seat and it didn't help at all.
    2. Disc squeaking sound. KTM said it is normal but it affects performance.
    3. Clutch vibration. I feel the problem is with ball bearing.
    4. Gear shift became very hard.

    PS : I have done regular service for KTM Duke 250. And I had already complained the issues to the KTM Service center.

    Now going forward I am looking at the following features in my new bike :
    1. Should be comfortable on long rides.
    2. It should cruise smoothly at around 130-140 Km/Hr.
    3. Budget is around 2 lakh.

    My preference is to buy the new Dominar 400 (not yet launched).
    Please share your opinion on this.

      Asking for smooth cursing at 140km/hr is too much ask from any bike that's sold in India below 400cc. That is kind of 600cc+ territory smooth cursing speeds.
      Best bet from any sub 400cc bikes is around 110-120km/hr, kinda on safer side too for our road conditions.

      You can wait for the new Dominar like you have said, that's the only one available for around â‚ą2L.

      Other choices include the Himalayan, Mojo XT 300 both are around â‚ą30K more around â‚ą2.3-2.4L will never fail to deliver.

      The legendary CBR 250R makes a good choice too, it has everything you need, meant to be sport tourer. Also the Classic 350 and new Jawa if you are into retro bikes. All these cost around the same â‚ą2L mark.

      All of them offer good rider and pillion seat comfort for long distances and cruise at 110-120km/hr all day meant for the highways with good engines.

        Not into retro bikes, so Classic 350 and Jawa is out of option. I already have a 250cc bike, so not considering CBR 250R.

        As you mention Mojo XT 300 can be one of the option. Will look into it.

          New cb 300r is set to release in a few months, you can consider that!

            As a owner of the current gen dominar i will try to help you in any queries regarding the older gen of the dom.
            1 : The rider seat is wide comfortable but you start getting a tingly feeling in your buttocks after 150-200 km of nonstop riding. The pillion seat is definetly not made for long distances.
            2 : There is also a disc squeaking sound in the front but only when i am rolling down the bike from my home's ramp which is at 3-5 kmph other than that there is no squeaking sound.
            3 : There are no clutch vibrations but there are slight vibrations which creep in at 4000-5000 rpm although bajaj has provided a vibration free kit which i have not yet personally installed but is said to do the job.
            4: Gear shifts are expected to be hard as these are single cylinder high capacity bikes.

            1- It is definitely comfortable over long rides, soft roading and even some serious off roading which i can personally assure you of.
            2- I never cruise above 100kmph as Indian roads are always full of surprises and the wind blast too can get tiring. It is recommended to wed a aftermarket windshield makes a ton of difference.
            3- The most value for money and perfect bike in your budget.
