  • How much abuse can RS200 take?

    Hello everyone.

I currently own a Karizma ZMR (2014 model) which I bought used. Since it's not powerful enough, I frequently need to run it in full power (downshift to get to optimal RPM + full throttle), specially during touring for hours on end. Quick acceleration is what I want here.

As a results, within ~12000kms of my driving (total driven is 20000kms), I got a nasty head gasket leak; the service center guys fixed it, but I don't think it'll hold that long.

Now I'm planning for an RS200 (roughly the same performance). My question is how long will it last under this kind of riding or do I have to opt for something more powerful (which I don't prefer since RS200 costs less in every way)?

PS: I prefer only sport bikes. I don't exceed redline.

Pulsars are known to take much abuse without any hiccups. I've been a frequent 150 and NS200 user and both barely require any kind of maintenance apart from regular servicing. RS200 is a fairly nice bike. Vibrations from fairing, body particularly under seat, foot pegs and instrument console in between 4000–7000 rpm range are the only bummers I've felt in a small test ride of 6 to 7kms. And the clutch cable snaps time and again. I would suggest a NS200 (NS = Naked Sport again; since you want sport) instead (if fairing is not a requirement).

        Thanks for the opinion.

NS doesnt have the fairing and is carburetor based all of which I dont prefer.

My Karizma's engine got killed at 25K (off which I've driven 17K). Piston cylinder worn out. Will cost ~15K to fix.

I really don't think RS200 will last long enough... max 25K of my driving.

What ! Karizma engine can last about 80k without any issues, i think, you change mineral oil @ every 6k kilometers interval.

              Nope. I was using synthetic.

Oil change interval was around 4K... that too the engine oil didn't even go black; it was brown, otherwise it has a life of around 10K.

The service centre engine oil (the splendor ismart one) lasts only 400kms after which it thins out because of shear stress.

The premature wear was because the service center guys forgot to insert the air filter!

Terrible service by Hero. I'll never advice or buy a Hero bike again!

EDIT: No, the air filter was present! The Mechanic was just bluffing!

Hey bud, I have a Pulsar RS200 that I purchased in Feb 2019. The bike is very rev happy, I often find myself redlining it even if I'm not in 6th gear and it does well. It can easily ride at 100+ with no fuss all day long, acceleration is still good at 0-100 in less than 10 secs.

I would like to mention though, I recently tried another RS200 purchased after mine but it's not as crisp as mine is. It may have to do with the engine break in method.

You could also try the new Suzuki 250.
                  Happy riding

Actually I ended up buying an RC 390.
