  • TVS Apache RR 310? Long term opinions, regular service and maintenance cost, loan information.

    Hi all, first post here.

I just started working. I am 23 year old and I am looking into buying my first bike. I have alwas loved the Apache series and I have been awestruck at the new RR 310 ever since its release. I couldnt buy before because of my unfortunate family situation since very beginning. Now that I am earning I want to get it.

I am planning on getting it on loan. I am saving 70k for down payment and will get 1.8l loan from bank. I will pay around 34k in interest for 30 months. Roughly 7.1k per month in EMI.

Now for those who own the bike, I want to know everything about the bike that you can give. Maintenance cost, service costs, personal opinion, everything that you can share.
What to look for while placing the order and after getting the bike, what to look for in daily riding and everything.

Would also love if you can provide what to look out for while getting two wheeler loan from bank. Hidden charges? If the rates are okay?

Add anything you want. I am a automobile enthusiast like you and would love your opinion before I finally fulfill my very old wish.

    Thank you so much!

      Hello.

First of all congratulations. I hope you make the correct decision in the future. And I am proud of you being a sensible man and buying your dream on your own money.

      I have just bought a RR310 (Dec 2018).

      About bike:
      In short, it's amazing.
In long, well this bike is actually jack of all trades. You need speed and power? It can go above 160kmph. You need for touring? It has sporty yet very comfortable riding position thanks to its amazing seat cushion and a great highway mileage. You need looks? I don't need to say how gorgeous it is. You need attention? Take it to the streets and I challenge you, many will just stare at the bike. You need quality? Just go to the showroom and check out the bike yourself.

      Maintenance:
Here's things are bit hard. Usually the servicing cost will be around 900-1100 if you use the mineral oil provided by tvs but I won't recommend. So if you use the synthetic oil which is specifically made for this bike by tvs, then the oil itself costs 1750 so the 1st servicing cost comes to 2k.
And I will recommend to go for the fully synthetic one because your experience with you bike matters. Fully synthetic oil will provide a better experience than the mineral one.

2nd servicing is usually just like a check up. If engine oil top up required then it costs below 500. If engine oil top up is not needed then its almost below 100.

So generally service costs will be between 2k-4k depending on the parts change.

Spare parts are on costlier side if we compare it to other bikes in this segment but you do get quality parts. That's one of the reason why this bike feels very very premium.

While placing order, do note the entire breakdown of the bike price. Usually in my showroom, they were charging an extra of 10k saying accessories. 4k was some short of handling and pdi charges. But u can actually avoid the other amount by saying No to their provided accessories like polish etc. Depends on you.

      Regular maintenance:
Just lube the chain at once 500kms and clean and lube the chain at 1000kms. If possible and feasible, tight the chain at every 1000-2000kms depending on your chain slack. A pro tip: use kerosene to clean the chain (I personally use this and many others too and its alot easier on pocket but you can use motul chain cleaner too) and use motul lube for lubing the chain.
Idle the bike for 1 min on first start of the bike and begin gently.

      Issues:
Well it is just slightly more viby than other bikes but it's not a buzz type irritating vibrations. Its more of a vibration which makes you feel that you are riding something powerful.
Other minor issues are actually solved by TVS and newer RR310 (the one you will be getting) is much more improved.

Also while booking, ask them to let you choose the bike among the lot, go for the one with least kms and the one with better condition.

      While taking delivery:
Do PDI (pre delivery inspection) search in YouTube.

Well I don't have much idea about loan and all but I would seriously suggest to finish the loan work a day before taking the bike. Because the loan work takes an entire day.

      Break in period:
Be gentle on bike and keep the rpms variable. Don't ride on constant rpm or constant speed.

I guess I have covered almost all the points. Anything else you want to know. Please feel free to ask.

      Good luck.

Some excellent points brother. Thank you so much. I am getting a lot of slack for deciding to buy so an expensive bike while I can go for a R15. It's not that I cant afford it, its just that no one in my family have seen such an expensive bike. I do get demotivated at times seeing no support but then I remember that I am an enthusiast, it will definitely bring a smile to my face when I ride it, more so than R15.

        Some questions -

        1) I have heard that overall mileage depends on how you ride the bike before the first servicing. What would be your recommendation for that?

        2) How often is servicing recommended for the bike? And what do you mean by parts change when servicing? Are there parts change for every servicing that can make the service cost go up to 4k? That seems a bit too much for regular servicing.

        3) Are there any frame sliders available for this bike? Just in case.

        4) You said they will charge upto 10k extra for accessories? What accessories are those if you can mention them? I know I will not be getting the saree guard and rear tyre hugger. PDI as in pre delivery inspection that I can do on my own as you suggested?

          1) I have heard that overall mileage depends on how you ride the bike before the first servicing. What would be your recommendation for that?
Ans : Yes and No. The overall health and life of the bike is determined by how you run in the bike (first 1000-2000 kms). Be gentle with the throttle, no red lining at any cost, keep shifting gears and varying the rpm for first 1k kmand you will be fine. after 1k kms, start giving short bursts of speed on open roads, take it to 60-65 on 3rd gear hold it for 5 seconds and then come down to your usual speeds. This will ensure that the engine gets a habit of revving freelyon all gears and will become smooth on any rpm on any gear. The good mileage is a positive outcome of a healthy engine. You will get between 20-30 kmpl before first service, the bike will heat up and will be a bit rough. All these will go away as you spend more time saddle. The mileage will increase a bit, although being a 300 cc don't expect a great deal of mileage, the engine will smoothen out and vibs will reduce.

          2) How often is servicing recommended for the bike? And what do you mean by parts change when servicing? Are there parts change for every servicing that can make the service cost go up to 4k? That seems a bit too much for regular servicing.
Ans: The service schedule will be mentioned in the user manual. Stick to it if you want warranty. Once the warranty is over, service it as per usage. For example : my bike has to serviced every 3 months or 3k kms, which ever is earlier. So I had to service it at 3 months till I had warranty, even if it has not completed 3k kms. but now the warranty period is over, I service when it completes 3k kms, it may take 4 -5 months.

The parts changed would be oil filter, brake pads - front one lasts 10k kms rear one may last longer (all depends on how hard you ride), air filter every 10k kms. Engine oil, depending on which grade you choose. Labor charges etc etc. And not to mention if you crashed and damaged the faring, broke an indicator or a rear view mirror.. the cost will rise accordingly.

I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

I understand your point but it's you who will be riding and living with the bike. Its going to be your all time companion. Its something that you will be seeing everyday. And you definitely dont wanna regret by buying something else just because of some other factors. Do you?

            1) Well that is very very true in case of carburettor bikes. But it still holds a strong point in these age bikes too. First 1000-2000 kms are very crucial for your bike. Despite the fact that modern technologies are very efficient and bikes are well tested before being delivered to the customer. But in first 1000-2000 kms bike actually gets used to your riding style so you definitely dont want to put stress on your beloved bike. And also its very risky to push the bike at initial stages because you might immediately loose control and end up in a tragedy.

            2) Servicing interval is at every 5k or 6 months. But major thing which is oil change, happens at 10k kms or 1 year. Yes 4k seems to be higher but you all such bikes cost this much to maintain.

            3) yes, from venom. Search in FB for their page.

            4) Mine said that they will give:
            Chain cleaner
            Chain lube
            Chain cleaning brush
            Micro fiber cloth
            Polish
            Gloves
And 2 or 3 things more than I dont remember.

It depends from showroom to showroom though. I prefer motul's chain cleaner and lube.

Hi all. I am attaching a picture of my quotation so someone can help me understand the taxes and all and if everything from the quotation looks alright and similar to what you got while buying. This is in the state of telengana. I want to confirm these with you all before I go to showroom again to enquire (I was busy that day so checked the bike, got the quotation and left).

Also, accessories is Rs.1250. When I asked about it, he said the two rear tyre huggers (front and rear of the rear tyre) and the handle bar at the tail section. Cant I remove the handle bar from the tail section? Also I wanted to remove the rear-rear tyre hugger as well, but I realise that wont be a very good idea as the dust will cause scratches on the tail section. However, I got to know from AP_SF that those are not accessories and I shouldnt be charged for them.

Is the insurance of 11k around the same for what you all paid?

What is Life Tax and why is it so high? Hearing it for the first time.

Facilitation charges I guess are the PDI charges and the normal service charge for showroom stuff that they take care of. Correct?

What is Perminent regn? Should I opt out of it since its optional?

What is external warranty? I can't easily recognise if its 5 years or 54 something. TVS provides 2 year warranty though right? So I am not sure where did the 5 years come from.

I think you mean the grab rails. This serves two purposes. For the pillion to hold on to and for you to hold when pushing/pulling the bike. If you skip this, this might be something you miss when you want to move the bike backwards when parked on a sloping surface.

Friends I want to raise the handlebars by an inch or so. Can you suggest any risers. Will it cause any cables slack? Has anyone tried risers?
