I am 33 yo old guy thinking about buying a bike for my daily office commute. I had learned riding on a Hero Winner (back in 2000), owned the first gen Honda Unicorn for almost 3 yrs (2004-2007). I went abroad for education and didnt ride for a while. After a gap of almost 8 yrs in 2015 - I started using my wife's Activa for grocery runs. From the past 6 months I have been using the Activa for office commute. Now my wife will be needing her Active for her office commute due to new job. And I dont want to travel in car to office since its a pain in traffic hours and expensive too. Hence I am back on the market looking for a 2 wheeler.
So here I am looking for a comfortable, low maintenance bike for daily commutes (30kms to and fro in Bangalore traffic) and weekend chores. Ease of riding in traffic, ease of maintenance and long term reliability are important to me. I also want the biket o have FI+ ABS. And I am married so pillion comfort is also important atleast for travelling 10-12kms.
1. Budget - around 1-1.2lpa on road
2. Age- 33
3. Height- 5'9"
4. Weight- 80 kgs
5. Intended use- daily commute, running errands (almost no highway usage- since I use my car for any long distance travel). Approximate running 30kms daily and 10-12 kms over weekends.
6. Brand/bike- Having owned a Unicorn in the past, I wanted to buy the Hornet- but reading about how it struggles with low and mid end torque has left me sceptical.
-Going for the test drives I was bit nervous since I havent ridden a bike in over 12 yrs! And have gotten used to seating position and ease of no-gears on Activa.
-Test drove Gixxer and found the posture rather weird and un-natural for me. Couldnt get comfortable on the bike (which is weird since everyone tells how comfortable Gixxer is). Also the lack of FI in Gixxer meant a NO-GO for me.
-Went to Yamaha Green City Motors to test drive the FZS V3 and was told that the test bike MIGHT arrive next month. Anyone know which showroom around Sarjapur/HSR/Marathahalli in Bangalore has a V3 for test drive?
-Went to TVS Kubera Motors to test drive the RTR 160 4v- They only had carburettor version for the test drive. The bike felt great and felt at ease with the posture. It seemed like a good choice for driving in B2B traffice of Bangalore, since the bike was able to pull in lower speeds in higher gears.
The showroom experience was disappointing- I was told that ABS is only available in carburettor version and they didnt know when it will come in FI version (which is against what I had read in the news). They seemed rather lazy and didnt even take my contact details or provide a written quote. The sales guy just told me that carburettor with ABS will cost me 1.2 lakhs on road
and FI+ Abs will go upto 1.4 lakhs!! Overall, a disappointing experience with the showroom. I would like to test drive a bike with FI and ABS before I actually make the purchase. Any pointer on which showroom has availability will be appreciated.Right now, I am confused between the V3 and 160 4V. Which would be a better choice for use over a long term and offer better after sales service?
PS-Sorry about the long(ish) post.
