  • Riding Honda Shine for a decade- Looking for change now

    Hello friends,

I have been using my Honda Shine for last decade and finally decided to get myself a new bike.
I had a very good over all experience with my shine , in terms of mileage, comfort, maintenance etc.

Budget : 1.2 Lakh - On Road (Max)
    Segment : 150/160 CC
Requirements : Sportier look, Pillion Comfort, ABS Dual Disc, Easy on maintenance, reasonable mileage(40-45)
Ride : Completely City Ride with medium to heavy traffic (Mostly with pillion), Rare highway ride

    Personal Details :

    Age :29
    Weight : 85
    City : Hyderabad

    Test Ridden:

    a)Hero Xtreme 200R
    Liked : riding position,reliable engine
Disliked : Looks like elder sibling of Hero Glamour, mileage
    b) Yamaha V3.0
Liked : riding posture, Yamaha Engine
Disliked : bad front design (my personal opinion),heavy on maintenance, generates low power compare to peers, pricey
    c)Baja NS 160
Liked: Sportier look, Mileage, availability of spares
Disliked : Cheaper plastics, Rear tyre, Not sure of engine's reliability

    Final Shortlisted:
    A)TVS Apache 1604v
Liked : Best of all worlds
    Disliked : Worried about Service
    B) Hero Xpulse 200t (Did not test ride, Like doverall features and style)

    Please provide/add your valuable suggestions

Choose between fz v3 and 160 4v you'll not be disappointed.

If you can increase you budget a bit, check out the MT15. It has the same reliable engine of R15 v3. You can also test out R15 v3 and see if you like the committed position.

I was actually eagerly waiting for FZ V3.0. But i really hated the design. It just looked dumb for me (Please Dont mind! If you are a Yamaha Fan Boy. My personal opinion. Looks are subjective!).
Even after test riding, i didn't feel connected to it.

Waiting for someone to talk about Xpulse Twins. Got a call from dealer about the arrival of Xpulse twins, planning to visit this weekend.
Please provide your thoughts on them.

Fz v 3 is smooth and practical, i myself own 2018 hornet, but I've heard that xpulse has vibrations in 80 to 90 kmph range also performance is comparable to 150 cc segment bikes . At the end you're both losing practicality + mileage. It's not so pillion friendly + no tubeless tyre option, in one word neither it has engine smoothness or mileage like Fz nor it has convenience features of tubeless tyres ,low seat height etc. Xpulse is only for offroad lovers. For day to day use and occasional highway touring what you need a proven reliable product like Fz. I too don't like the looks of FZ v3, but as a complete package it's very good, just don't think about looks, looks is temporary but a smooth ,long lasting engine permanent !

Re: Riding Honda Shine for a decade- Looking for change now

Update : I had a chance to visit Hero showroom yesterday ,here in Hyderabad. Test rode both Xpulse 200 and Xpulse 200T.
Xpulse 200T : I had kept this in my options, but this looks very normal, doesnt even look like 200cc motor. But it will be a worthy upgrade for 35+ aged group who are using 100/125 cc machines. It has all comfort for family.

Xpulse 200: WOW! It looks wonderful. i was very much impressed with it's looks. Beating appears different in 200 compared to 200T. Only issue for me is it's heoght. I cannot perfectly balance with both legs (I'm 5'9").

I think you can have a look at the Apache RTR 180(ABS). Is a worthy upgrade if you don't find the FZ V3.0 appealing enough(which in my opinion, is a very good bike).
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Thank You Krishna. Between, what do you think on Apache1604v? Is RTR 180 better than 1604v?

RTR 160 4V rocks, 180 is an old bike. 160 will give you similar or better performance as well as better fuel efficiency.
Edit - plus 160 4V looks fresh and better.

BIG mistake. All Hero bikes are basically modifications of splendor. This bike is intended to run only at 40 - 50kmph(like splendor), beyond which you'll get issues like -

                            fuel injector going bad

                            vibrations

                            loose fairing

premature piston/cylinder wear at 25K kms(even when using synthetic engine oil)

                            head gasket leak

                            etc.

All Hero bikes are basically modifications of splendor. Thiss Heros most powerful bike, but since its basically taken from splendor and theyve somehow mana

My experience of a hero bike --
