  • 125cc bike purchase: Help needed

    Hi guys,

I am about to be 40 and looking for a reliable daily bike with less weight and plan to keep this bike for around 15 years like my present Splendor plus of 2006 model. My other requirements are should have 5 gears, electric start and disk brake/brakes.
I have Honda Shine SP in mind but would like to know any other good options.

Also would like to know that if Yamaha is releasing any bike with above requirements anytime soon?

    Thanks very much,
    Ramki

Don't wait on Yamaha, they are not interested to join the commuter segment with their bikes.

The only bike with a 125cc engine and 5-speed gear box is the Honda Shine SP.

        What is your budget?
How long do you have to travel everyday?
What kind of mileage are you expecting from the new bike?
Hero Honda Splendor (June 2001- Present)
        Yamaha YZF R3 (Jan 2016 - Present)
        TVS Scooty Zest 110 (Oct 2017 - Apr 2018)
        TVS Ntorq 125 (May 2018 - Apr 2019)
        KTM Duke 125 (Apr 2019 - Dec 2019)

Budget is less than a lakh.
          Travel daily around 40kms total.
          Mileage around 50.

Also would like to know whether even 125cc bikes would be FI bikes from April 2020?
          Thanks

If you want to go for 125 cc, Honda Shine is the best choice. And having lived with it for 10 years, I can tell you that it will be the ideal choice.

However, you can also get a 150 cc which will return 50kmpl and more power is always good. Your choice would be between Honda Unicorn and Pulsar 150 Neon/Standard.

Do test ride before procuring the bike.

You have very few choices with these criterias - 5 gears, under a lakh.

              Shine SP
              Discover 125
              Platina H Gear
              Pulsar Neon
Unicorn 150 (may be little out of your budget)

BS6 version of Maestro Edge and Activa gets FI. So I would guess, yeah 125cc bikes would also get FI unless they have some other technology to make it comply with the emission norms.

Shine SP should be the most obvious choice. It is a solid, no nonsense bike.

If you are looking for other options, do check out the Hero Glamour. I think the new ones come with FI which is not essential on a commuter but good to have nonetheless.
The new TVS Victor is also a very good and fresh looking option. Take test ride of it as well.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

                  All these are nice choices
