  • Upgrading from a gixxer 155

    Hello all,

I am looking to upgrade from my Gixxer 155 and now have managed to save enough money. I have done long rides on my Gixxer and now looking for a decent tourer.

    Primary requirements:
    -Rider and pillion comfort
    -Reliability

Some of the bikes which i had in mind are
    1. Dominar
    2. Himalayan
    3. Mojo (now that abs is here)

Uses are daily commute weekend rides and once in 2 to 3 months long rides.

    Please suggest.

Mojo is a good bike compared to the above 2. But pillion comfort will be slightly more in himalayan and dominar but mojo has the smoothest engine among them. Decide yourself what do you want .

You really can't go wrong with either of them.

Some negatives that I know about ->

Dominar - Vibrations at higher rpm and Highway speed ( don't know about the newly released one)

Himalayan - Will struggle at highway speeds only in comparison to the other two.

Mojo - heavy bike for cutting through traffic.

Thanks. Rented a bs himalayan for a day and rode around 270km. Riding ergonomics are very good especially felt awesome to stand and ride on bad roads.
But felt vibes throughout. The rentat has 34k on the odo.
Will the vibes be the same in bs4 version?

I can give some Inputs regarding Mojo
Its heavy but, its all about once you get adjusted to it .!! I have mojo, and i have been using it for more then 7 months daily up and down for my college (40+ km)..!! And since, new mojo misses out on Upside down forks, and with reduced Rake angel, it might perform good in city condition .!!

Let me put it this way.

              Dominar:
The most advanced of the list.
certainly good for highway but should be ok in city too
              pillion comfort is questionable IMO
easy to find parts as its bajaj - best reliability as compared to others in this list

              Himalyan:
Long suspension offers very smooth ride over bumpy terrain
The most comfortable seat for both rider and pillion of all the bikes in market (leaving scooters)
Not the best in city as its a big bike and could be a bit of learning curve required to move it through traffic
easy to find parts as it RE - better reliability than bullets.

              Mojo:
I dont really have experience of it but If it fails on a highway, you may not find any replacement parts along the way.
But from what I hear, Mojo may not fail you like an RE.
Hero Honda Splendor (June 2001- Present)
              Yamaha YZF R3 (Jan 2016 - Present)
              TVS Scooty Zest 110 (Oct 2017 - Apr 2018)
              TVS Ntorq 125 (May 2018 - Apr 2019)
              KTM Duke 125 (Apr 2019 - Dec 2019)

In my humble opinion, since comfort and reliability are priorities and long rides seem to be rarer, I would suggest exploring a lighter and more commuter oriented bike than the three in your list. A 250 could serve you well, be it FZ25 or the Gixxer 250.

                  Hello all,

Thank you for the inputs. Decided to go for the dominar 400 looking at the vfm quotient.
(seeing the polar and trans siberian being done on the dominar really sealed the deal.)
