  • Hunt for a new bike

In search of a daily workhorse which can also serve as a weekend getaway ride.

    Must haves:
    1)Fuel Injection
    2)Dual channel ABS
3)Upright riding position with comfortable ergonomics for tall rider (I'm 187cm tall)
4)Should not have car like fuel consumption

    Budget <= 1.8L (Ex-showroom)

Any inputs about the Jawa 42 will be appreciated.
PS : my riding speeds don't go above 80kph

    Thank you.

According to your requisites, there are quite a few motorcycles that you can go for:

Bajaj Dominar: Fuel-injection. Dual-channel ABS. Upright posture. Decent fuel economy. The most powerful of the lot, USD forks and other premium features.

Suzuki Gixxer 250/SF: Both the naked and faired variants have Fi and Dual-channel ABS. The faired version has a slightly sportier stance but it is not R15 in that regard. Should offer decent wind protection and the mileage will be better than the Domi because of the lower displacement and power. The naked one will be devoid of the wind-protection but will have a slightly more upright position.

Honda CBR 250R: Fi. Dual-channel ABS. And a balance between upright and a sporty riding position. Not the new kid on the block.

Then there are other options such as the Apache RTR 200 4V and such but you may not get everything you wish for and they are considerably less powerful. If you'd like to have a lot of highway grunt, Dominar is the best choice which will compromise slightly on the mileage. If not, then Gixxer 250/SF.

Do let us know what you go for.

Consider FZ 250 it has 35+ kmpl mileage.

The engine is sure a really good engine. Mahindra claims that it is a new engine but everything is identical to the Mojo engine. But the good things stop here. I had visited the Jawa showroom recently and was shocked to see that the bikes in the showroom had rusting and paint chipped off. This was seen on 3 out of the 5 bikes. Just imagine what will happen outside on the roads with harsh weather. The quality seemed very sub-standard to be honest.

          Thanks for the reply.
I was thinking about RTR 200 but FI doesn't have ABS and vice versa (though its still a great contender, I would appreciate if you could comment on its long term reliability, I'll be considering the FI). Is himalayan any good?, its tall stance and comfortable seating makes it a contender too.

            2008 Yamaha R15 V1.0 [SOLD]
