    Best Bike Within 6 Lakh range for Touring and for thrills

    Hello All,

    The first time I posted in this section was when I was a college student looking for fun bike for college and I ended up with the Apache RTR 180 its served me faithfully for 9 years and now I am looking for an upgrade (I'll never sell my beast though as its my first love) but I was looking for a secondary bike for touring and bit of commuting as well. My budget is around 5.5 Lakh to 6 Lakhs.

    My preferences:-

    1. A fully-faired bike however naked is also fine. No adventure tourers please.
    2. 2 cylinder configuration (single is also fine as long as it has good power for cruising)
    3. I personally don't like KTMs so any other brand apart from KTM.
    4. Refinement please as even though the Apache is a blast to ride its refinement is not very good and I am looking for a good refined bike to cruise and triple digit speeds

    i have shortlisted Ninja 400, Benelli Leoncino, Benelli 302r, TNT300, CB 300R and Yamaha R3.

    I am willing to wait for new launches as well!

    Please suggest!.

      From that list, Ninja 400.
      Its miles ahead of everything.

      Else, save some more and get a N650.

        If not new, a used N650 should fall in your budget range, BTW if you haven't ridden any yet, Get to TWIC or any 2W rentals to ride for longer distances, that should help decide, understand refinement and touring capabilities.

          How can you forget the Interceptor 650 ? Ofcourse it’s a naked,but this helps it if you are commuting.You can also install the large front windscreen to deflect the wind.You’ll have a lot of fun in it.Beautiful old school charm! The bike sounds so good,refinement is amazing (You can do 120kmh/r all day long)etc.It might not match the Japanese Finesse,but it’s still a fantastic option.If you’re getting it,I’d suggest some handlebar risers and a better seat to get an even more comfortable riding position.

          You also save a lot of money as its way below your budget,You can use the money for a good set of riding gear,a few full tanks of premium fuel,cover service costs and oil changes,you might even have some left for a different exhaust to get one wicked sound too!

          All the best You might also wanna wait for the BS6 norms to kick in,you might be able to scoop a good deal on a brand new last stock BS4 bike.

            You have pretty good budget.
            If you are open to used bikes, you can easily get a Z800 or a Z900 (might need to stretch a bit for Z900). A CBR 650F is also worth a look at.
            N650 will cost around 4.5 to 5 in used market.
            There is a N650 and N1000 for sale in our group. Let me know if you would be interested.

            As for new ride, I would recommend you to get a new N650 by adding some more.
            The price difference is not much between the N400 and N650, however you would start feeling the need for more power sooner with the N400 than with N650.

            Since you have a good budget, do not make the mistake of buying any of the RE twins.

              Hi Pranav,

              I suggest that you spend 4-4.5 L on bike and keep around 75 K for great touring gear, luggage, touring accessories etc.

              A faired bike will definitely help a lot in touring and cruising at triple digit speeds. Will cause less fatigue.

              I think we can narrow down to N400, R3 and 302R. I'd prefer the Japanese here for ultimate refinement and reliability.

                So nobody wants the 2020 R3?
                I think the new R3 wins here by quiet a margin. LEDs on both ends are better than the N400. The spare parts and servicing is cheaper and easily available which is a boon on tours. The ninja will face spare part problem. The Japanese refinement and reliability is always a plus with both. And you will have enough money to get some serious kit, be it riding gear or tank bags, tail bags and other touring stuff.

                If you are bent on Ninja, get the used 650. The daddy of all the tourers.

                And I wouldn't touch an RE with a barge pole. Especially with a budget like yours and Japs well within that budget.

                  Great point Ankey!

                  Kawasaki spares and service will be expensive and they have limited showrooms/service centers. Even in Metros they have just 1 center. Where-as Yamaha has 4-5 centers who can deal with R3. Kawasaki doesn't offer a single free service. Yammy gives 3 free services for R3. These will cost 2K and a paid service will cost 3-3.5K.

                  P.S - I own 2018 R3. Earlier had the TNT300.

                    Thank you all for your valuable suggestions.

                    I am currently not in favour of second hand bikes. I really liked the NINJA 400 but i feel is its not worth paying 6,40,000 for it now is there any chances of price reduction? also i when i visited the Kawasaki showroom i didn't like the sales representatives "buy it or leave it" attitude and there is only 1 service centre in Bangalore.

                    Yes i am considering the Yamaha r3 and will wait for the 2020 version to launch. how likely is the CBR500R going to launch? are there other bikes in this range i should look at ? any new launches around the corner?

                      It's hard to believe,that this bike is from same RE, that manufacturers VIBRATOR 350 AND VIBRATOR 500

                          There is no market in India for a 250/300 in the 4.8-5 lac category, so these bikes most likely would not launch.
                          Better get the N400 rather than playing the waiting game.

                            you have a point but Ninja 400 comes only 3 colours (2 colours are limited only 10 units each) and its priced ridiculsously high at Rs 6,40,000. will the year end bring in any discounts? because i dont want to spend more than 6 lakhs for bike right now . I also just hated the attitude of the Kawasaki showroom sales men as they seem disinterested about selling the bike and they are not even offering any test ride.

                              Year end most likely will not have any discounts. However you might get lucky around March 2020 when they will try to clear off existing BSIV bikes (if they have surplus stock).
                              At 6.40, the N400 is pretty pricey. The N650 makes more sense. Its priced at 6.9 to 7.4 depending on the color scheme I guess.
