I have been looking for a suitable bike for myself for the past few months. After going through a lot of bikes, test drive and understanding my own needs I felt going for a used bike than a brand new. I'm looking for a reliable touring friendly bike although I will be using it for daily commute too at least for the next few months until my company offers a cab service. My budget is around 1.2 lakh and some more for accessories or riding gear. With that in mind I set for a used bike and felt a used CBR 250 suits my needs. Although Dominar did pass through my mind I felt the CBR 250 is known to be more reliable, proven long term than Bajaj Dominar and I have some affinity towards Honda since my first bike was Hero Honda splendor, I drive Honda Activa and own Honda city. With this mind I started looking for a used CBR 250 in and around Bangalore within 3-4 year old models (upto 2015). I did not find any CBR250 with ABS in my budget range therefore I shortlisted a couple of non-ABS models and I need your advise in choosing the right bike.
1. Feb 2016 non-ABS with 18000 on odometer - Quoted price 1,20,000. After test driving, I had a mechanic take a look at the bike who suggested to change front tyre, rear tyre can still do some more kms (although I think it is better to do both), change rear brake pads, oil change, chain sprocket can be adjusted to use for some more time. He said without tyre change, everything would cost about 2-3k. After hearing this, the owner dropped the price to 1,10,000 however I asked for 1,00,000. He said he will ask his son(who is outside India) and get back to me.
2. Dec 2016 with 8,500 on odometer - Quoted price 1,50,000. No description of whether it is ABS or non-ABS. If it is non-ABS then the asking price is way too much and should be at least another 20-30k less. If it is ABS, is 1,50,000 justified for this model? I will be doing a test drive tomorrow and if I like this bike and does not require any changes what should I quote?
3. 2015 non-ABS with 25,000 on odometer - Quoted price 1,10,000. I do not know the exact month of the model but the owner has replaced tyres to Michelin recently, new battery, chain sprocket, brake pads and also serviced recently. I have not test driven this one yet but if all this is good then I don't think I will need to do any changes on this bike. The owner did say that he has another offer for 1,00,000. I have to quote somewhere between 1-1.1 lakh.
If I go with the first bike, I will need to do bunch of repairs, replace both tyres and all of this could cost me anywhere around 10-15k and if the owner agrees to sell it for 1,00,000, it will still cost me 1,15,000. Also need suggestion on the tyre
I'm confused. Kindly advise.
Thank you.
