  • Looking to buy a new bike

    Hello All,

Looking to buy a motorcycle for my daily commute as well as touring purpose. My budget is around 10 Lakhs.

I am around 5.7" in height. Bike will be used for 30% highway and 70% daily commute in Bangalore. Everyday, I will be driving around 40 kilometers up and down. Not worried about the fuel efficiency.

So far, I have taken test ride of Street twin and V-Strom 650cc. I liked both the bikes.

Currently, I own a Mojo 300cc in past. I have ridden Karizma-R, Enfield Classic 500cc, Pulsar 220 and 150. Occasionally, I get to ride a Tiger XR on tours. I prefer to ride naked bikes or touring bikes. I took test drive of Interceptor 650. For some reason, I didn't feel comfortable riding it.

When I go on tour, it will be with a pillion all the time (my wife or friend). I always wanted to own a Street twin but I am not sure if I can accommodate panniers into it. Whereas for V-Strom 650cc, it requires servicing every six months.

    Please advise.

      I see two challenges:

      1. The bikes in your kind of budget dont really present a good case for themselves as a daily commuter.... especially in the Bangalore traffic. You are typically looking at 650 cc and above bikes which come with their fair share of engine heat and body weight which you need to cope with during your daily crawl.

      2. The bikes in the segment tend to get specialized in their segments viz. touring, sports, cruiser etc. Hence difficult to find a bike which fits all the bills.

All said, I would recommend having a look at the Versys 650. Though the Kawasaki dealership experience may not be the best, its a rock solid touring bike with international credentials.

        Hello Big Bong,

Thank you for taking time to respond to the query

        1. I completely agree with you 650cc and above bikes comes with their own share of weight and heat issues, that is not a problem for me as I travel at non peak hours traffic will be less.

        2. I’m just trying to see which one fits 80% of my requirements so that I can opt for it. Those 2 bikes which I have mentioned I liked it but unable to decide between the two

        3. Versys 650cc is an awesome bike no second thought about it but here my concern is spares availability and height of the bike. I’m a short guy so little worried with the weight it carries and short height will I able to handle it, anyway I will give a try on this weekend see how it works for me.
