  • Bike or scooter

    Hi,

I usually drive cars and dont own any bike now. Daily office commute is around 50kms (up and down) of which around 35KM is on 4 lane highway which I thoroughly enjoy. I used to have a pulsar which was sold several years back. Now I would like to buy a bike or a scooter mainly for city use, buy groceries etc. and occasionally for office commute (Occasional or not depend on how much I like the vehicle I guess)

My thought is if I get a bike (Like dominar) I might as well regularly take that for office commute and enjoy the ride. If I get a scooter then I would continue using my car for office commute and use the scooter occasionally. Will a 125cc scooter like burgman or ntorq be boring to ride on a highway?

I drive/ride responsibly but generally faster than 99% of the traffic. I drive around potholes mercilessly and usually due to that have spend considerable amount of money to repair the suspension on the car. For that is a bike or scooter better to withstand the abuse?

Another thing that worries me about scooters is that most people warn me of backpain. I have never had backpain so far but definitely dont want to have one. I'm around 6 ft and around 70kg if that matters.

When it comes to buying groceries etc I guess its a no brainer that scooters win. Other than putting an ugly box at the back of a bike are there any other accessories that will let me carry groceries and still look good on the bike? Carrying a backpack is one option but if you are going out for something else and want to buy stuff there is no way to carry it.

Get a bike, No scooter in the current Indian market would give that thrill of speeding down a four lane highway. I have ridden a scooter multiple time on a single lane highway and its boring. Even with the throttle wide open, you can barely do triple digit speeds for extended periods.

For carrying stuff, you can get panniers for the bike. They are removable. Also Tank and Tail bags and saddle bags are worth a look.
