  • Sports tourer under 3 lacs

    Hello friends,

I am planning to buy a fully faired bike which I will be used for office commute (50 kms per day) and occasional touring. I might also have a pillion rider with me. Please suggest how much cc bike I should buy and which will be best option.

Shortlisted are Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, Apache RR 310.

Thinking of Ninja 300 also but will have to strain my budget for it.

N300 is a very good bike, both for city use and touring.
If you can get your hands on a BSIV unit, you might get a good deal on it as the model has been discontinued (BSVI model incoming).
Try and rent a N300 over the weekend and see if the riding style suits you.

        Hey Harshit,

Though Gixxer SF and RR 310 are very good bikes in their own rights, I have my doubts with the pillion comfort on fully fared bikes in general. If you're open to non fared bikes, I would suggest the RE Interceptor. How will be your city and highway riding split be? If majority of your rides are going to be in city, then I think Interceptor will be an overkill.

        Cheers!

If you are open to used bikes, the N650 can be a good option.

                Hi Harshit,

If your budget fits a Ninja 300, then it's a no-brainer. But maintenance costs will be high and low mileage.

I don't know much about the SF250 but I will recommend the RR310. Comfortable riding position & wide seats, suspension is good for bad roads and head lights are really bright. Cruising between 80-120 should be fine. Above this, it will get vibey. Mileage of 30+ but tank is only 11 lt. Pillion seats will not be usable as it doesn't have grab rails.

Don't buy without a test ride.

                Cheers!

I don’t feel very comfortable on my rr310 with a pillion inside city. For long rides, your pillion will need a gel seat and extra grab rail. The rear seat is super high too. However for solo rides, the suspension setup, seat, wind protection, high speed stability and posture is one of the best you can find in a 300cc motorcycle. There are vibes post 100kmph too so it’s not the most refined bike out there. I’d suggest to rent both bikes and try them out.

That's a great point, Arjun. No doubt the pillion seat on sports bike are uncomfortable for the pillion but it's even more uncomfortable for the rider. Without the grab rails the pillion rests their arms on your shoulder and it can be very uncomfortable. This happened to me on my R3. I got back pain because of this in 10-15 minutes with a pillion. But no issues ever riding solo even for several hours.

                    Cheers!

Well, you may use air seat attachments for pillion like Ride-on-air provides. You can also try and attach a back rest. Check out someone like Lluvia Industries from Coimbatore.

                            Cheers!
