• Need help with getting a used bike for commute to work

I moved to Bengaluru last month (before the pandemic shut things down) for a job with a motorcycle manufacturer. I am looking to get a used motorbike for my daily commute.

Would anyone let me know if it is a wise decision to go for a used RTR 200 (2016, 10K km's) available for around 65K? I'm confused and my brain has not updated to the inflation considering that I had bought my RTR 180 brand new for 75K in 2007.

Also having always ridden disc only bikes, I am more inclined towards the RTR 200 or 180. Another thing is the employee parking is available only if you have the company's own brand 2wheeler or something exotic in a higher segment which the company does not have a presence in. RE GT 650 also not allowed since it is priced close to our flagship.

Intending to get a proper fun bike next year though (always fancied the Daytona 675 want to get a used one or a used Street Triple 765 next year, maybe new one if my finances allow).

From what I know, they give you price benefits when you buy vehicle as an employee. Maybe that'd also be like after training/probation period or something.

Hi Vignesh Bro..I think the best hassel free bikes to commute and which will be way easy on your pockets in terms of mileage, service and spares esp in banglore city conditions are 1) Honda Unicorn 160 2)Hero Splendor Plus .If you are able to get bikes after 2016 which have run less than 20-30k kms, then go for it after riding and checking out the bike.Basically they weigh less to and so easy to drive in traffic.U should get good ones under 50K.If you want to up the grade, then try Fz-S, Pulsar 150/180,Duke 200 (if you are buying second hand, always buy bikes which are less than 1000 days or 3 yrs old and driven below 30K kms, anything more than that,u are lookin at lot of future troubles in bike buddy.I studies in banglore for 6 yrs, i own a ZMR,i have used Rtr 160,180,Bajaj pulsar 180/220/avenger, Unicorn, splendor, splendor plus,ct 100, tvs viktor, and lastly an R6( i used all my friends bikes for 2weeks to a month as we often exchange bikes at hostel for fun) out of all,the most sitting comfort and riding comfort was ZMR ,but in traffic ,the best was 1) Unicorn 2) Splendor plus.My back and spine got punctured after riding r6 like a touring bike esp at traffic.

@ Zapps, My budget is between 50 to 60K bro. You are right my probation period means I do not get the 5% employee discount, unfortunately it is not available on the flagship model.. DrAzlan, I do agree that the Unicorn 160 is a perfect commuter, but in order to be able to use the company's employee parking lot, the bike has to be from the Company's own lineup. sagarzzz, I agree I will try to negotiate the price of the bike if I find no issues during the test drive.

Thats the best you can do,take a test ride of the bike, check it properly, and if u like it then seal the deal, and 1 more thing if u find it good then don't bargain unnecessarily..

Try to check the price of that bike in local second hand bike dealers, then take a test ride & thorough inspection and make your offer citing all the work you'll have to do on it.

I am assuming you won't keep this (used) bike for a long time, so it's okay to buy a used one now without worrying too much about its resale value and maintenance.
Your choice of RTR 200 is excellent considering the restrictions. But the asking price is too much. I have found that OBV website (orangebookvalue) provides excellent valuations for used cars and bikes. It shows the valuation for that 2016 RTR to be 53000 max, that too in for excellent scratch-less condition. The seller is being greedy for asking 65000, try to negotiate.

If you are up for a tour, search for used RTR 200 within 300 kms circle and simply drive it down from there.
