  • Heart set on Kawasaki Ninja 300

    Hi Guys,

First of all, I'm incredibly thankful to this community for helping me pick my last two bikes- Pulsar 150 and the KTM 390 Duke
This time I've come on behalf of my friend, who has his heart set on the Ninja 300. He's read all about it apparently and is adamant on buying it as soon as the lockdown opens (we are from Delhi)

The problem is the dealers in Delhi tell us the 2019 versions are all sold out. the 2020 BS VI might take some time and come in 2021. The 650cc variant is probably available but that is way more expensive than the 300cc.

My friend doesn't have a problem in getting a pre owned Ninja, but obviously would rather prefer a new one. But in this case, he is ready to settle with a pre owned one.

So here in I would like you help. Does anyone know the status of Ninja's in DElhi(or even NCR). Is there a trusted, good reviewed place where we can check pre owned Kawasakis? Any kind of help is highly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Not sure what kind of condition and prices pre-owned 300s go for. I'd look on the usual OLX/Bikewale types of websites and take each bike on merit. If he has his heart set on a new 300, I'd also highly recommend he consider pre-owned 650s for now. They can be had at a good value and probably sold for a minimal loss once the new bikes come and be traded in for the 650.

I have a feeling that the BS6 Ninja 300 may never exist. It is over the 250 cc limit for low taxes in the Eastern markets and has been virtually superseded by the Ninja 400. Don't know how they will justify a new version, but that is just me thinking out aloud. For all you know, they may just launch in a few months.

First of all, Thanks for replying. So fast forward to today- he has considered buying BS VI 650Ninja first hand. He's asked the dealers in Delhi and they've told him it'll available in June end.

But the thing is he might have to book it right now, without test rides and everything. He's 5"6, weighs somewhere around 80-85 kg. Will he be able to handle the bike conveniently? Plus he tells me 650 has an underbelly exhaust? Will that be an issue with indian roads?

        Thanks

Re: Heart set on Kawasaki Ninja 300

Both the Ninja 300 and Ninja 650 have low ground clearance. At 80 kgs you can scrape a few bumps if you are solo and with two up you will scrape quite a few bumps. Another option is to look for a used ninja 400. Upto 100 kph there is very little difference in pickup between the two and its only above 120 kph that the 650 shines. Of course the 650 has more usable torque but the 400 is no slouch.

The 400 has additional ground clearance and a friend who has it told me he has never hit a speedbreaker ever. I have a Ninja 650 and honestly I get tired of hitting speed breakers but I weigh 94 kgs so that's also a factor.

Do note that the cost of service between a Ninja 300 and a 650 is quite high. The 650 needs much more expensive tyres and spares are also far more expensive. Same with the ninja 400. Its cheaper to maintain over the 650 but still far more expensive than the ninja 300 which has local components.
