  • Under 1.2 lakhs for daily commute to work

    1. Budget: 1.2 lakhs max on road price
    2. Age: 28
    3. Height: 5' 10"
    4. Weight: 95 kilos
    5. Intended usage: Office commute
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement: At least 40kmpl
    7. City & Highway percentage usage: 50% highway 50% bad roads
    8. Approximate Daily running: 25 to 30 kms, mostly at around 50 - 60 kmph
    9. City / Town /Village of residence: Town, outskirts of Kolkata
    10. Brand / Bike type preference: Anything
    11. Riding style: My driving style is calm, i dont go over 60. I might be carrying a pillion occasionally.

I have narrowed it down to the following:

    1. Apache 160 RTR 4v: The RTR has the most power obviously. It also has a few great features. Cons include that it looks too sporty to me, and has a sporty riding posture which might get uncomfortable over time, lower fuel economy, and i am not sure about the reliability of TVS engines over a period of time.
    2. FZ-S v3: I like the FZ because it has a better riding posture, better looking imo, and a reliable engine tested over many years, and better fuel economy. Cons are that it has the lowest power in its class, Yamaha even reduced the hp after the bs6 update.
    3. Unicorn 160: One of the most recommended bike by friends and family, but looks pretty bland tbh, the opposite of the apache. I like the Hornet or the XBlade, but their BS6 models arent out yet, sadly.

Bikes I am not considering are Gixxer (no Suzuki showroom nearby) and anything from Bajaj (heard bad things about their engine)

FZ makes more sense to me, but will I be missing that extra power from the RTR? I havent done anything over a 100cc ever because I always prefer public trasport. But the current situation has forced my hand. Thanks a lot!

Bro test ride a ns 160 .And you will feel the difference.its good bike have good mileage.seating is comfortable.looks better then the rest.its more powerful than TVs 160 rtr 4v.every bike have some sort of niggles here and there..No bike is problem free..Yes bajaj had some issues in past.

But rite now they have improved a lot.bajaj's service is cheap than most of others OEMs.parts are easily available.they have vast network of service centres .

FZ is reliable as well as more comfortable compared to other bikes you have mentioned.

I have not ridden the new apache 160 but it definitely has better pickup and breaking from what I have heard.

Bajaj bikes are value for money as well.

Unicorn does not have much to offer other than a reliable refined ride.

I still have my old Suzuki gixxer 155. It has excellent low end torque, mind blowing handling and performance and i never ever had any reliability issues... only drawback is the uncomfortable pillion seat.

Please test ride all the bikes before you choose your new soulmate.

            Dear Brother

Apache RTR 160 4V would be better in my honest opinion. Reasons being:

            1. Higher power and torque.
            2. Oil Cooled Engine of higher capacity with a similar mileage to FZ (around 45 km/l)
            3. Maintenance free Battery.
            4. Headlight comes with an auto on feature along with LED tail lights too (but FZ offers only a bulb)

But the choice is entirely yours.

CHEERS & all the very best of luck for your new ride to be
            Cheers!!!

Why don't you think about Bajaj Avengers?? As you are a calm driver you will love these bikes. Please take a test drive before you finalize..

I actually am coming back from the bajaj showroom because i was suggested to look at the NS160. And I really liked Avenger 160 street there. It was much more comfortable than any other bikes i drove. I am worried about durability as everyone says Avengers is not durable.

I tried the Apache and FZ too, I didnt like the Apache at all. FZ was much better. So i guess I have to decide between FZ and Avenger now.

Don't go for avenger..Ya it's comfortable...But ns 160 is better in terms of power, masculine looks, and avenger series doesn't sell well..Or if u like a cruiser sort of bike then do co sider it...But yes take a test drive of both avenger nd ns 160..Then only decide..

He is 5'10" which might have got in the way from considering Avenger. The saddle is at a height of 730 mm, the bike suits shorter people like me (I am 5'3") but it might not be to the taste of taller persons.

                    Cheers!!!

                      Looking at your budget and riding style , the most vfm bikes would be {in order}
                      1. Pulsar 150 or 180 neon (you can buy with even your eyes closed )
                      2. Ns160 ( much improved and very punchy engine and great chassis)
                      3. Rtr4v 160(pick up and technology on offer is best in class )
                      4. Fz 3.0 (very boring though and costly now)
                      5. Avenger 160 (just for the price and average it's a deal )
