  • Confused in buying a bike under 2 lakh

I am looking for a bike to commute to office and also go on occasional weekend rides of not more than 150k m. My budget is 1.5~2 lakh (can stretch some more).

I am 5'6" and weigh 68 kg. Looking for a bike that has a comfortable seating posture. Not interested in sporty riding posture. Pillion comfort is also a priority.

    Bikes shortlisted (all BS6 models)

    -FZ25

    -Gixxer 250

    -Dominar 400

Also interested in Enfield Classic 350 BS6 but heard a lot of negative comments regarding the maintenance of the bike.

Please give a proper guidance for selecting the one which is suitable for me.

Note: In my city (Trivandrum, Kerala) Muthoot Yamaha gives better after sales service. All other service stations are not up to mark.

Also add Avenger 220 to your list and Test ride before deciding.

Its so clear. yamaha after sales is good, go for fz 25 bs6 version. gixxer doesnt sell much, u might face spare parts and conumables issue with suzuki, it has least number of dealerships among bike makers..leaving out premium brands. dominar is great for touring, remember it weights close to 200 kgs, similar to royal enfields, it has better dynamics though. blindly go for fz25. good luck.

avenger 220 is most comfortable bike too, but it has very low ground clearance and very long wheelbase, which can be problem in quick turnings, turning radius is more.

        yamaha it is.

Dominar would be an overkill for a 150 km ride and city commutes. It is heavy and way too powerful. FZ25 is a good option since it has the torque available at the right rpms. The engine to originates from the XT250 which itself is reliable.

I think, go for dominar! The bike provides comfort and power.Spare parts and service are cheap. One negative to say to yours say would be that it is little heavier but trust me my friend weighs like 55kg and goes offroad with it. It is usually dependent on rider. If you have previous riding experience then this fits well. I would say go for anyother if you are very concerned over the 35+power and mileage!

I would say go for the Dominor. Initially the added weight might make you uncomfortable, but a couple of weeks with her, and you should get used to with the weight.
Also the additional power (compared to FZ25) would make its presence felt on the highway. Overtaking would be easier.
If feasible, rent out a Dominor over a weekend and go for a 150kms ride and see if you like it.

I have same height and weight as you and own a Dominar too. I definitely feel the weight of the bike when not powered or when I have to push it.

With that said. Go for it only if you prefer Power in your price range.

I think you Yamaha FZ25 looks best for your use case.

                Also check out Jawa Classic.

Go for the Bajaj Dominar 400 as it is more VFM than the other two. And it looks macho in every looks.

Test ride. Only a test ride with pillion will be able to help you come to a conclusion.

As a FZ25 BS4 owner myself, I've never heard anyone complain about the rear seat (with ~200km continuous ride), while earlier he was seating on a Duke390 and was not feeling comfortable.

FZ25 shares parts with others (common consumables during servicing), and hence availability will not be an issue. Also, overall maintenance is on the cheaper side.

Tank range is 400kms+, if you ride gently (gives 45kmpl+ when you're cruising 85-90, as per the live mileage display).

Light and agile, and with good tyres, can do off-roading as well due to lighter weight.

None of my friends own Gixxer 250, so can't comment about it.

                      Dominar 400 -

                      Better headlight than FZ25.
More power, much better console, good RVMs.
USD Forks - But be careful, if the oil seal breaks, that needs to be addressed immediately.
It's heavy. No bike feels heavy while riding, but these factor affect while maneuvering
No center stand, so chain maintenance becomes a fuss.
