  • Best bike under 2 lakh on road?

    Hi everyone,

I am considering buying a bike under 2 lakh rupees. (the cheaper the better)

    My details:-

I have been using Hero Glamour i3s (4-gear) since last years and find its gear ratios to be very bad (its only comfortable at the speed 40 and after you cross 60 vibrations are unbearable) also it has heat management issue since the day one.

In the past I have owned Discover 100t and have also been occasionally riding Honda unicorn of my dad.

My age is 25 and weight 85kgs height 5'10".

    My requirements:-

1.Looks:- I want it to look great and its one of the most important requirements since i am not really gonna ride much mileage etc is not that big of a concern.

2.Seating position:- I want great seating position. I don't like Bajaj avenger kind of seating position while Honda Unicorn have a good seating position. I tried Apache 160 RTR 4V and found its foot peg position to be bit higher for my taste while FZ-S V3 has a really nice seating position for my liking. Also, I prefer full handlebar compared to clip-ons for the possibility of modification it provides (though I won't mind clip-ons given seating position is upright)

    3. Comfort:- It should have upright seating position and good suspension for bad roads.

    4. Performance:- Since the general speed I ride on is 60 km/h with occasional riding at 90-100 on highways I want a bike that's quick to reach 100 and able to cruise that speed.

Lastly since I live in a semi-urban area I want a bike that's not only reliable but is without major problems and part availability shouldn't be an issue (if I can get parts online that would be a big plus).

Since bike dealers here rarely offer test ride and will only make bikes above 150cc available on order I won't more than likely be able to test ride one before finally purchasing it so please suggest which bike will be appropriate for me.

    Thank you.

For your requirements I would suggest you consider RE ThunderbirdX or Dominor 400, former is easy relaxed seating position and good touring ability while Dominar is more refined, higher power and ok touring bike.

Thanks for reply bro but dominar 400 is way out of my budget with 2.4 lakh on road and its pretty damn heavy as well, as for re thunderbird i don't like that kind of riding posture also my brother owns a classic and we have been facing alot of reliability related issues lately with the bike .

Principally i am considering these bikes:-
        1.Fz v3
        2.Ns 160
        3.ns 200
        4.Apaache twins
        5.Fz 25
        6.Mt 15
        7.Dominar 250
        8.Gixxer 250

Earlier i zeroed on fz 25 for at 1.6 lakh it felt very good value for money but then Yamaha increased its price pretty insanely and i also come across a lot of complaints regarding its engine noise etc (in official owenership thread as well as other forums) and thus restarted evaluating other options available.

          8.Gixxer 250

Apache 200, NS 200 and MT are all good sporty bikes.
FZ25 is a bit underpowered for a 250cc mill and a 6th cog is dearly missed. Great for city. Not so much on the highways.
Dom250 is a great choice but is a bit heavy for city conditions.
I think Gixxer 250 is a great bike. Has 6 gears and good power. Very light. 100 kmph is no problem for the bike. Performances only tapers off after 130 kmph or so. But that's more than enough. I'm not sure about Suzuki's sales, service and presence outside of city areas. I think it's a concern and definitely not strong as compared to Bajaj, Tvs or Yamaha.

P.S -There's a new Honda 200cc launching in a couple of days. Keep an eye on it!

          Good luck!

Bigger question or should i say problem with fz 250 is its abrupt price hike . i am getting pretty much the same bike for 20 k extra without any major improvement. Also i am not sure what niggles may crop up in it .
(Actually its sales have been pretty bad
in last 2 years and i am not really sure if i will be able to get required parts if needed. And after price hike i am even more convinced that its not really gonna sell more )
As for gixxer 155 cc one is grossly overpriced at 1.4 lakh on road and while 250cc one is great pakage its almost identical to 155cc one and that just puts me off .

Btw will it be possible to change clip ons on ns 200/gixxer sf to a regular handelbar??? And how much will it cost/how difficult would it be??

Also i have heard mt15 have like seriously stiff suspension??? Can we change it with a softer one ???say apaache's suspension???

I'd suggest you to consider Dominar 250. I bought D400 last year and yeah initially it felt heavy but I got used to it within a month and never faced any issue ever since. Btw I weigh around 60 kg.

              2008 Yamaha R15 V1.0 [SOLD]

Dominar 400 is definitely a wonderful bike but way out of my budget. On the other hand about dominar 250, i think its performance will be more or less similar to ns 200.( I just wish i could get ns 200 with Dominar's wide handelbars and seat. )
Btw any niggles in dominar u may have observed???
Also how would u compare a dominar 250 with ns 200 ???(apart prom performance)

Hello there, NS200 has Duke 200 derived engine and Dominar 250 gets Duke 250 derived engine. And in a way it's better and more reliable engine than Dominar 4000.

Test ride both, Dominar is slightly heavier than NS.

I think you should go for Pulsar NS200, its the second most powerful motorcycle. Looks good, feature list is also decent for the price and now with Fuel Injection, cold starts wont be a problem either.

So far am satisfied with my D400 and the only niggle is that infamous vibes present around 4000RPM. Since D250 has smaller displacement it's much smoother and will be more fuel efficient. Also, do note that ride quality of D250 is much better then NS200 which is very stiff. You should definitely take a test ride of D250 and then decide.

Will it be possible to change handelbar to regular type??

I am sceptical about 2 things with dominar 250: -
1st its weight ,while it wont be a problem while riding ,in everday life dragging it around for parking in tight spots (i also dont have a dedicated parking in my home and thus using a room for same ) it may turn out as a problem.

2nd is its skinny tyres: - i belive they should have at the very least provided 140 section tyres in rear

But now i will try getting a test ride of dominar so that i can understand better if it would be a good decision or not .

Also is it possible with these monoshock bikes to upgrade suspension with a softer or harder one as one requires?? Say fitting a softer suspension in ns 200 or mt 15????
