  • The new pulsar 220 DTS i or the Good old 220 DTS FI ?

The all new pulsar 220 DTSi with amazing value for money has of course arrived but at what cost?

At the cost of a great piece of technology called fuel injection that apparently let it pull faster, gave it greater torque at low rpm's and also less noise and vibration?

According to probiking guys, the old DTS Fi version will also continue to be available. So if I don't mind shelling 10000 extra should I go for the older version as I am more interested in the pickup and quick throttle response than the top speed?

Are there any other reasons why I should consider the new 220?

    Oh Biking Gurus, please advice.

Test ride both bikes and decide what your heart says since money not a issue here!

I wud say the DTSi at worst will be as good as the DTSFi , so why not buy the newer one and spend the saved money from your budget on a good jacket , lid and gloves !

That is not a bad idea.

I also knew that this question would turn up.

To each his own I guess. I am happy with my Fi so far. And I am not even interested in selling it off for this one. I may go for a test ride once.

Maybe we should add a poll!

The only place where the Fi scores over the new bike is roll-on acceleration or ridabilty..Out right acceleration and top speed is better on the new bike.

did u test both of them??

btw I always thought that the only advantage over the carb or a fuel injector is fuel economy.....I really dont think that just removing 1 piece of technology will affect the bikes torque and TOP-end would go fr a toss!!...
i would strongly disagree to that .

What about the remaining components that make the bike fly!

May I please know what exactly is roll-on acceleration and how it differs from outright acceleration?

Even I couldn't find the 220 fi link on the website. I think it is going to be phased out.

The probiking guys at Vashi(Mumbai) said the old 220(FI) will continue to be available whereas other bike showrooms are saying that it is being phased out.

I confirmed with Probiking Hyderabad-220Fi will be available, against order.

I had a small test ride of the 220DTSi&immediately noticed the difference in idling, due to the addition of a catcon. Could not make out the difference in power, since I could not attain any highspeeds.
There are a few other changes too, like the steel pipe in the disc, large carb, better piston heat dissipation, all in a positive direction. So, I feel going for the newer DTSi would make sense, only thing missing would be the fuel injection, the advantage of which would be clearly evident in the hills. In the city, I think the 32mm carb should do its duty as well. There is an auto choke so I don't think you will be facing any cold start problems.
Yes, my advice is go with the DTSi&save the extra 10-12K for something else, maybe as someone said here, good riding gear!
                            Quench my thirst with gasoline!
