  • Help me to choose a bike

Guyz, atlast i got my driving license. My dad has promised me a bike soon as i get a license. And now,itz the decision time.

I'm not a speed freak. Will b riding the bike around 40-60kmph.I dont care about the mileage. Will be travelling only around 20-25km daily.

Karizma is my favorate bike since i was studying in 7th or 8th.Zma costs 78k here.My brother used a Zma(2006 model). When i told i'm interested in zma,he told maintenance (till now,i didnt get wat's meant by tis MAINTENANCE of a bike) of zma is a big issue and the spares costs a bomb and we cant afford that.

When i seeked help from one of my friend who's a biking expert,he asked me to go for unicorn or fz as both are reliable and maintanence is not a big thing for these.I donno why,i didnt like unicorn. It seems like a FAMILY bike for me.So being a college student,i think Fz would suit me ,as itz more stylish.

New pulsar 180 is cool. But being a bajaj bike,m afraid about itz reliability. Will be screwed if it starts giving problems.

My height is 5'9 n will fz cause any trouble for me?actually,m waiting fr the launch of Fazer...

Guyz,i need your suggestions, keeping an eye on this MAINTENANCE
Should i go for Zma itself or fr Fz/Fazer/180 or any other?

Can you be more specific as to what is the price range you are looking for as there are a lot of bikes to choose from.
Zma is a reliable bike. You can think of it.
FZ has got good handling. If you like naked bikes, then this one's for you.
180 has been upgraded. If you like the new model then think about it.
I cannot comment on the reliability issues of the bikes. A major part of it depends upon the usage.

Other options to consider are R15, new 220 DTS-i(fastest bike manufactured in India), RTR 180.

Heard the new RTR too got tat vibrations probs
also,i dont care about the top speed...Just want to buy a bike whose maintenance is low and is reliable ...

Avoid zma if you are reluctant to shed money in their service centers..

Though you would need to visit them not as often as others but once you do...Rest assured you will keep paying them for the times to come....

Just a lil example might as well clear the difference. DIsc pads of this bike cost a whoooping Rs. 2300 ......in the world where others cost in the range of Rs. 200-300

Anyways talking about FZ, it might suit you pretty well as you are not a speed freak and does not care much about the mileage of the bike.
At 5.9, it would suit you perfectly....!
          2002 - Pulsar 150 Classic (Still owned)
          2005 - Pulsar 150 Dtsi (Still owned)
          2006 - Eterno (sold)
          2008 - Dio (Owned)
          2009 - Pulsar 220 DTSi

Since you say you are neither a speed freak, nor do you intend to extract more mileage out of it, I think the FZ/Fazer suits your requirement perfectly.
It should be reliable and smart looking. Mileage slightly on the lower side compared to the other 150s, but you don't really bother about it.
Overall a nice buy. I would say wait for the faired version aka Fazer 150.
              Quench my thirst with gasoline!

                  U get
Radial tyres at the rear (140)
                  270mm disc brakes up front
                  A monocross suspension(Different from Uni's monoshock)
DC lighting(Though the P150 too has it now)
                  Fully digital instrumentation
Midship silencer which aids in more torque
When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

Who said so? It s one of the best sprinters on par with other 150's if not better. It s topend is slightly lower than other 150's though

Guyz, again i'm confused.Today i went a bajaj showroom nearby. There was a black P180 UG4 kept for display. It's for the first time i'm seeing a new P180 so close.I liked the bike very much.It has got the looks, better than fz.Even the on road price of P180 is slightly less than Fz's.These all made me to rethink about the bike..

Is P180 a better bike than Fz??As i mentioned before, what about the reliability and maintenance of P180??
Please help me.I will be booking the bike coming tuesday.

Test ride both the bikes. Then decide.

What you heard about reliability/maintenance is because people pass on issues of old bikes to their friends and because of word of mouth, even before a product is launched by a company, you will hear that it is unreliable.

Bajaj bikes have been gradually getting better, and the latest ones are reliable and maintenance free. Keep in mind that both these things will depend a lot on
                              * proper service back up after your purchase
                              * how you treat/maintain the bike yourself.

If you take care of her, it will definitely take care of you.
