  • 2009 Pulsar 220 carb edition or the new Fazer 150 ?

I have been a bajaj bike rider for most of my life and I really liked the Pulsar series. Last weekend checked out the new Pulsar 220 and the New Fazer 150 which is on the store but not for sale or test ride yet.
Fazer claims to be a tourer but all the visible change i can see from an under powered FZ-16 (Which it truly is ) is just the front headlamp and aero dynamic changes. So is this worth the buy over a 220 pulsar or a 180 UG 4 pulsar.
I would prefer if the suggestions are given based on the ride quality and performance not just the looks alone. Look wise Fazer will will hands down.

    Topic Approved.

There isn't really much of a competition there if you go by the power of both the engines. However, if looks are concerned, I am all sold off for the new faired Fazer FZ-16. But, then again, if looks would have been everything, then we wouldn't have moved on with the power game.

At the end of the day, it's totally your call. If you want a decent looker with good power, and I am sure great touring abilities, then go for the P220 DTS-i. It will also be a good daily commuting bike, I am sure. On the other hand what the FZ offers is pure looks with barely any power to speak of (comparatively speaking, ofcourse). So, make your choice.

If only the FZ could have been a bit more powerful...

The only edge that Fazer has over the new p220 is the fresh look!
      Heck! Ride both and decide,...!
From what I hear the Pulsar has evolved well....
The FZ handles well, and the Fazer is no difference... it handles very well.

IMO, the Fazer is a relaxed lazy torquey bike.... all those people cribbing about the extra weight really need to ride the FZ and Fazer and find the difference.... I really couldnt find a lot of difference except for the Fazer saving me some wind drag...!

The Fazer is too bold a looker for the power it houses so people 'complain' about it being under powered.... whereas the P220 is a proven screamer.... (I am yet to ride the carbed one, but the reviews so far has been super impressive!)

Your first sentence and second emoticon suggests you have literally locked on to P220 DTSi I think you can ask about color schemes (if you are not aware)....I suggest you Mid-night black P220 !!

The only thing the Fazer has going for itself is its looks. I have test rode the Fazer and have been riding the 220 for 3 days now, so I can tell you straight up. The pulsar is not a bad looker if you choose the right color. It has the most refined pulsar engine yet. IT HAS POSITIVE SHIFTS, unheard of in pulsars, and runs around 80 kph without even you knowing it. Breaking has also improved. Now fazer is a good bike and an extremely gorgeous model. but runs roughly similar to the old FZ. The torque in Fazer is a tad bit improved and so is handling.

SO the decision is yours, killer looks and decent performance or decent looks and killer performance. Its is kind of deciding between a desi girl friend who will keep you awake all night or a super model who will put you to sleep by 12.

I would have favoured(if not bought) the Fazer if had atleast a 200 cc engine.

As of now 220 scores, i dont think it looks that bad, but you get a good 32mm carb.

BTW I believe all small capacity tourers has to have good high end torque and not necessary to have good low end torque this helps in high speed cruising. Good low end torque is good for city riding. Though the game changes when you have a 600+ cc between the legs.

So if you are ready to mod it then get a high lift(stage 2) cam and a bigger carb, you will be happy, with its performance.

Dude please mention your requirement as in - will u be using it as a city bike or for touring or stunting etc. And IMO the P220 is the jack of all these and better still..... the king of high end torque and power. So if u r not too concerned about the looks (The midnight black is awesome) go for the P220

I have seen the pulsar 220 midnight black edition. The handle bar paint job didn't look that great. A glossy finish !! a mat finish similar to FZ would have been great. Less visible scratches over a period of time.
Any one has got any idea whether there will be an upgrade to the FZ series or the Fazer series which will eventually follow soon, why not yamaha upgrade the FZ to the performance of the R15 which also has a 150 cc engine except for the cooling and tuning difference.

If i were u i would most definately buy the pulsar 220 because under the current scenario it is has the best price to performance ratio, and it looks good too.

I feel this is going to be a very real situation with me .. But FZ is not just a showpiece but a potent city machine. It's no speed rocket but sure can pull off excellent in and out of traffic dives it's handling is a dream in the city.

Cos someone who is really price concious would not prefer the r15 as they would get the performance if not the technology of an r15 for a far lower price. And the FZ is a diffrent machine it s not about speed on that bike I feel. It s more about handling, mid range torque and style.

We should in fact be comparing the R15 and the p220 rather than the Fazer as they re both performance machines. And the P220 has thown a bit of a spanner in Yamaha's works with the P220 eating right into the R15's performance space at a much lower price. Till about 2 or 3 days back I was quite determined to get an R15 as a stable mate for my Baby beast (read as my FZs) but now I ve left that decison pending till after a through test ride of the P220. And by far the P220 is winning both my heart and my mind.

Guys thanks for your suggestions, I am going to wait for the new ZMA to see what this new bike can deliver. If nothing much other than the full faring then Pulsar 220 should be the likely choice.
