  • unicorn speed above 5th gear

    Dear Friends,

My age is 30. Currently i own a max 100 R. I like to buy Honda unicorn. But i don't ride above 40 KMPH normally. Only at occassion i will touch 50KMPH. My questions are .
    1. What is the minimum speed we have to maintain in 5th gear in unicorn for smooth ride?
    2. Could i drive in 40 KMPH in 5th gear?
    3. If i drive in 40 KMPH in 5th gear could i get nice mileage (45-50) and engine life.?

Please do provide your user experience. It willhelp me to choose the bike.

    Bike Query Approved
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

I like the comfortness in 150cc bikes. (suspension , ride quality). But still i like to limit the speed.

Well you are a different kind of Biker....But happy to help you...
Unicorn is a Best bike for providing comfort in Lower Speeds....
But i would advice u changing the Rear Shock absorbers of Maxr to that of an Star city shocks - will provide you more comfort....and riding only at 40's in top Gear will ruin Uni's 4stroke engine in a prolonged time compared to your 2stroked MaxR
You can save a lot of money by doing this...
But if ur in a need of a good New Comfortable bike.....Uni is your piece of Cake....
          Happy riding.......

            Karthik,
            1. 40 kmph
            2. YES
            3. Absolutely, but you will be wasting Uni's capabilities.

You sound like as an hardcore commuter interested in enjoying engine refinement and high mileage in sane driving conditions. I would suggest you a Splendor for such use, you'll end up saving 25K over an Unicorn (with which you can travel 30,000 kms on splendor).

If u dont mind increasing your lower limit to 45, then uni is a better bet.
Like shadowfax advised go for shine.
It offers wat u want - comfort, suspension, ride quality and
                - +mileage 60+ for ur driving style (my guess hopefully)
                - +savings in ur initial investment.

Uni is one of the best bike in terms of Comforts and touring
You can easily maintain 45-50Kmph in 5th Gear as Uni has good Gear response running in lower speeds.
50-5kmpl would be easily expected FE with that speeds

I would suggest to increase your riding speed 1okm more, so 50-60kmph would the best speeds in Uni, it makes you feel difference after riding MAX100.

most Honda mills are butter smooth below 4k rpm...considering that you won't go above 40-50 shine is a good choice as the others pointed out...You won't be utilizing the real potential of the unicorn IMO...
It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

sometimes i also likes to drive very slow around 45kmph at constant speed so i could enjoy being a wing rider ..then i usually get around 58-63 kmpl..

@Kartin: I have a Unicorn and I ride at very sedate speeds at around 40-50kmph and I get 54-56kmpl in city conditions. On long rides at around 60-65kmph I get about 60-62kms per litre. So you can be assured of good mileage and comfortable ride on the unicorn, notwithstanding, its reliability.
