  • Still ridethe HUNK or go in for the Fazer?

    Hello all,

I have been riding a HUNK for over a year now and all of a sudden due to office relocation, I need to ride for 120 kms a day. I am truly satisdied with the bike but, I am not satisfied with the light quality. Its of no use and I am blinded on the highway.

    Pro's of the HUNK:
    • Awesome ride
    • Stable at high speeds
    • Good mileage

    Now, Coming to the Fazer

    • Good powerful headlamp
    • Smooth Engine (Same as Hunk?)
    • Any thing else?

So, do you think I should upgrade my bike only for a powerful headlamp (runs on DC power). Money factor?

there wont be any change in Lighting if u buy the Fazer . both run a single 35 watt bulb only . better get ur Coil rewinded and put a 55 watt bulb or go for a 35 watt Hid[best lighting but costs 2-5 k rs]

Really?? I read on this forum itself that Fazer has dual headlamp but only one lights up at a time -- at least that was the initial reports when it launched.

Second, it's avg will be lower than Hunk which can be significant as you will travel longer now.

Third, price difference between a new Hunk and a fazer is 18-19k here in Bangalore for OTR prices.

So do consider these things also.

That is correct that Fazer has only one lamp that runs at a time. However, it runs on DC as against the AC of HUNK. Lastly, I remember hearing from a Yamaha mechanic that if we keep the (upper and dipper) button in the center position, both the lamps run at a time.

I already have the Hunk for over a year now and truly satisfied with its ride quality. Its just the light that is putting me off. Since the Hunk is already present the pricing difference comparison part is ruled out. Plus, I am not worried about mileage too.

PS: What's the mileage of Fazer?

DC/ac wont matter much as you will ride long distance at higher rpms . Only at around idling rpms do the Ac bulbs flicker .

dont buy Fazer just to keep pulling the Flasher switch . its just for passing and overtaking ,not permanent use . remember the fazer has same battery as Fz and its also not very high capacity , if you drain it up ul be stranded in middle of nowhere as it also hasnt got a Kick .

My suggestion in my prev post . Fazer mileage is around 40

Rather than buying a Fazer... Why dont you look at the thread about changing to dc.... Its in the desi bike section... Its a cheap mod... It'll make ur electricals work on dc... Plus with a custom rectifier( the way to make the rectifier is also given in the thread) ... You can change to h.i.d... Which will be much better than your stock headlamp... And overall the mod shoudn cost you more than 3000-4000 rupees which includes the cost of buying a h.i.d...

If the headlight is your concern, I suggest you to go for HID on your hunk.

                  Absolute Spot ON!!

Do the same and keep on riding Hunk, for the time being, when you are riding this only, keep th light on LOW beam and press high beam both the tungsten's will glow simultaneously and ample light would be there.

P.S: In My Humble Opinion, if that is the only problem, Please switch to an HID asap, you will not repent spending 2-3k on it after you see the result..
The path would be visible clearly.

As already suggested by majority here even I suggest you go with the HID installation.. Cost will be 2k(made in china brand - no warranty) or 4.5k-5k(Philips - with warranty)... rather than buying a new bike...

As you would be riding around 120km a day my suggestion would be use the money to buy a good quality helmet (if you don't have a good quality one) and riding gears (boots, gloves and jacket)

If you still intend to buy a new bike please check out Pulsar 220.. Its super good for night riding due the project light..

                    Cheers,
                    Gene

                      +1.
U can opt for several after-market lights including the Osram night-breaker,philips extreme vision. If u want more, then go for HIDs.
If u want a new tourer bike with awesome headlights, then go for P220.

I have already invested in a good quality ISI marked Vega helmet. I had plans to upgrade to even a better one but the shopkeeper after looking at the condition of the helmet mentioned that without a fall, it can last atleast 3 more years.

                          Hunk Repair Cost

                          Dear All,

I still have not decided upon the new bike and still riding the HUNK. I need to know the following now:
                          • What is the cost of the Headlamp fairing assembly and the front Number plate?
                          • New Handle (OEM)
                          • If I change the complete front, what would be the cost?
                          • Upgrade the rear tire to Michelin - what size? and Cost?

                          Comment

remember the amount of fuel you would be spending extra every month man.. phenomenal i guess. Keep the hunk. get new riding gear.and an awesome helmet. That should serve you great.

going in for a new bike just for the headlight doesnt seem like a great idea.just like everyone suggested here,go and install some cash on HIDs
It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch
