  • Need Help (deciding Second Hand) RE Bullet Machismo 350 or Electra 5S

    Hi,

I am in a dilemma for deciding a RE. I am having a Yamaha RXZ 5 speed (2002) all these days and now I have decided to sell it as I am getting old enough for that bike and don't have so much enthu' to maintain it.

As an upgrade I have decided to go for Bullet as it was on my wish-list for quite some time now.. I wanted to go for a second hand as I don't wish to spend a lakh on a bike which will be used for around 50kms in a week and a tour rarely.

    I have 2 options now..
    1) Bullet Machismo - 350CC - 2005 model - 21K kms done - Expected price around 55K
    2) Bullet Electra 5S - 350CC - 2007 model - 23K kms done - Expected price around 65K

I need your suggestions considering the below points

==> I am new to Bullet world, and don't have any idea on the feel or pleasure, thou I have driven a Machismo 500 for mere 100kms
==> I don't know much about the technology involved in both
==> As the bike will be sparingly used, how about the maintenance??
==> Do you think the above quoted price is a good deal in Bangalore??
==> And any other info I need to make sure before buying??

    Awaiting your inputs..

    Cheers
    Bharath

      go for the Electra 5s
      try negotiating it to 60k
Electra5s has the Cast Iron Engine.
Maintainence every -1000kms if u want it running in Top Condition
Oil changes as per runnin of the bike
Tappet issues and vibrations less when compared to the Machismo 350
Self Starter problems are less when compared to machismo350

      Machismo350 (i Wudnt recommend this)
Mach350 has the Aluminium Engine or AVL engine as its known
Maintainence every -1000kms if u want it running in Top Condition
Tappet issues will be quiet prominent since its a 2005 model
Vibrations more than electra5s this is because the AVL engines are lighter and the frame is still the old one which is common across all models
The bike does have a better pick up and top speed wen compared to the Electra 5s along with increase in maintainence issues
Self start conks off for multiple reasons (mfg defect) so u end up kick starting the bike..

Test drive both these bikes that are on sale and then go to the showroom and test drive a Mach350 and an Electra5s. .

          Hi Guys,

Finally , I bought RE Bullet Electra 5S itself.

The bike was very well maintained, not even a single scratch on the tank. But few of the nuts and crash guard is rusted.

Pic of the bike.. My mobile cam is very bad... Actually the color is Military Green and silver

Now... Again I need your help..

As most of you know, its raining and raining out here at Bangalore. Now the starting problem of my bike is amplified. Usually it used to start in 2 or 3 kicks when I bought. But now.. getting my bike started is a major problem.

I visited one of the mechanic referred by my friend, he cleaned the spark plug.. tuned the carb for air fuel mixture. BUT.. next day same problem, whenever the engine is let cooled the bike just doesn't crank. Again I removed the plug and got amazed to find black carbon deposits.. It was actually cleaned a day before. Noticed bike misfire sound from the silencer when de-throttled.

Now, I have started to kick in left foot parking the bike in center stand as my right knee is showing signs of wearing out

Please let me know your suggestion to this problem...

          I have two 2 doubts

          1) The carb tuning might be wrong
          2) The battery might be weak as it produces a feeble horn after few kicks.

@RBK - I suggest you take the bike to Teknik motors on CMH rd and get a service and details all the issues you are facing with the bike. They should be able to sort it efficiently. BTW have you sold off the RXZ??

@yamahatrooper: OOH.. Infact the bike had run just around 800kms after the service!!! But, after I got hold of it... I have changed the engine oil completely draining it, lubricated, adjusted the chain tension, cleaned spark plug & carburetor and as I said showed to a mechanic even for the problems. So.. thats pretty much as close it gets in a SERVICE..

Was expecting a different input, thou''

And yes.. I sold off my RXZ(That too 5 speed Racing blue 2002 model). The decision of selling RXZ might not seem to be a good idea. But it was one of the hardest decision.. And also to mention I got a handsome deal for that - close to almost new bike after using it for 6 years...

Below is a pic of my bike.... I miss it!!!
