  • Honda Dio Doubts

I have been through many posts to buy a gearless scooter for my wife. Sometime i also drive. But mainly for my wife.Since many thread exist here i thought not to make one more thread on the same matter. But i have some doubts whiich i could not find solution yet.

Now we have decided to go for Honda Dio .Because she is just 5 feet so she cant handle aciva, aviator, access(she does not like design of those too). She likes Pep+,sym flyte and Honda dio.

Sym flyte is having many problems than DIO(I understand through forums and reviews) PEP+ is very small for me and lack of power(She is already driving our cousins PEP+ with our 2 year old son)

Yesterday she drive little bit honda dio from showroom. She informed me she thinks that she can adjust with DIO( Maybe bigger heel shoe's help much better). I would like to ask something are following below.

    1) We are confused with Colour, which one is better Yellow or Blue? Yellow has any shading problem after sometime.Anyone here used that colour?

    2) from the internet,it says there is dio standard and dio delux. But dealer talking about only one model. is there two versions of DIO?

    3) what about height? Can she ok with DIO with her height 5 feet?. I am 5.8 so it will not be problem for me.We have 2 year old son too now.sometime she way want to take son also with her in scooter (As i already menioned above she is already driving our cousins PEP+ with 2 year old son in small distances)

You guys are very helpfull. Some doubts i cleared through PM.I got prompt replies. Thanks

Presently i dont find any other scooter which suit for me as well as my wife.

I own around an old year DIO.
At the first place, I would not recommend the DIO.
The engine is sluggish, Plastic quality is pathetic, Mileage is around 33 kmpl for all these months under sanest and mildest of riding (majorly driven by my dad) and the shock absorbers are real bad..(that is expected out of a scooter anyway)..and the typical cold start Honda problem.

Have you seated yourself at the back? The scooter sports India's most awkwardly placed rear footpegs. The pillion has to stretch his shit out to reach those so called footpegs.
Talking about the positives, I do not find a better handling scooter in India, than this handling masterpiece from Honda. It feels as though you are riding as sedate a machine as a Unicorn (on smaller wheels). The scooter comes loaded with very grippy MRF Zappers

The engine of (102cc) Activa is a better tuned one. Even if you ride the DIO and the older Activa, you can clearly make out the tuning difference between the two scooters.

      Talking about your points :-

      1) We are confused with Colour, which one is better Yellow or Blue? Yellow has any shading problem after sometime.Anyone here used that colour?

      2) from the internet,it says there is dio standard and dio delux. But dealer talking about only one model. is there two versions of DIO?

Ther are two models made one is the standard one and the other one is the deluxe model (price difference 300-400rs). Deluxe has more graphics...thats it
Even I did not wanted to pay 300rs for more graphics, but had to because Honda doesn't supply the regular model...Its a kind of a compulsion to pay more even if you dont like the extra graphics.

Height is OK, because of the lighter weight, it can be driven easily, though ther is not much of a difference between the saddle heights of Activa and Dio.

Why dont you take a serious ride on Mahindra Flyte (since you have discarded Access because of its bulkiness)?
It has got a lovely peppy engine, better at pulling loads, and has got telescopic shock absorbers which does ther job with aplomb (considering the wheel size). Mileage is also reported to be in a better range.
Just that service might be an issue with Mahindra currently.!

B/w Activa and Dio, it's about individual taste (HMSI game plan is same, cater to different tastes/likes), if the new Activa is costlier than Dio then better buy Dio.
Pleasure could have been on your list, lighter/cheaper/better svc spread and itseems >30% Pleasures are owned/ridden by men

As per the feedback from one of my female friend, Activa is awkward because of it's width for short stature persons and she found Pleasure to be perfect for short riders. Also it has lesser weight as per her. On engine front too, Pleasure shouldn't be much from Honda one. So I think that could be an option too.

Thanks for replies. only two vehicles in our list which is DIO and SYM Flyte.

We like Flyte's Features Like front fuelling, Large Storage Space,125cc engine..etc.But when i check through forums Flyte has so many problems than DIO, Many people reported Petrol Tank Leackage problem. I am not sure it is still there with new version of Flyte which comes from Mahindra.

Regarding the Flyte, I am thinking it is same size like Pep+. so my height is 5.8 and siting on Flyte, will it comfortable for me? Or is that bigger than Pep+?

I would definitely recommend Dio over flyte. I own 3 years old Dio.. I get mileage around 40 kmpl and its wonderfully smooth.. only drawback IMO is the pillion foot rest.. otherwise, Im happy with the scoot... and its lighter than activa because of plastic parts. Im no sure how the Mahindra flyte is different than kinetic flyte (in quality).. but HMSI is benchmark of quality in India... be it scooter or motorcycle..... go for Dio... you will be more than happy !!!

B/w Dio and flyte I would suggest you go for Dio.

Owning flyte can be quite horrifying w.r.t after sales support and svc. My friend bought flyte for Rs.36K onroad (6K discount), after two weeks, the shop was closed (sai motors, next to kids kemp, a/p rd), and the nearest auth. svc station was pathetic(Unicorn, Domlur) and the next auth svc centre was about 20 kms away, his first paid svc bill was Rs.2100 with many parts change (Our Alto's Ist and 2nd paid svc were Rs.1700 and Rs.1100 respectively) !!

                              HEy......I own a 2004 dio.....
Firstly, DIO's a great machine....I've done like everything with it........Stunting, short trips, city commuting and it has clocked 20k on the odo,....
It's a great machine.....take good care of it,......the HONDA reliability is with it,.....it's the TODAY's time's KINETIC HONDA........IT ROCKS, NO ISSUES,,,GO WITH IT........... Choose the GRAY COLOUR......it needs just a wipe and it's like new......I am talking about the old dio...with semi graphics(hope you got it..)

You can also try Pleasure......or Access.....it ahas a nice engine.....but anyways you can never go wrong with a dio ......just timely services....it works even if you do not give it on time but the mileage drops......
                              ANYANY queries.....contact me.......
