  • Planning to Get Bike Need Guidance

    Hey guys,

I'm Vignesh, i'm planning to buy a new bike. I'd ready to shell around 50K max. I went for a few test drives and i tried out

    1. TVS Star City
    2. Bajaj Discover DTS-Si.

among these two i was leaning more towards the Bajaj. Now the thing is, i plan to buy it near Diwali so there will surely be some offers. I am wondering what other bike could i get near to that quotation.

I'll be using it for two years and after that i also need to consider the resale value. What is the current resale value of bikes. Also, the Bajaj Discover DTS-Si is a 100 cc vehicle. With the current market the 100cc segment could lead towards being obsolete in the near future.

So please help me out, i want to buy a new bike..and i thought this would be the right place to ask.

    Thanks
    - Viggy

TVS Star city has been in the market for quite some time. I haven't heard of any major issues. Discover 100 is relatively new. I've been using a Platina for about a year and haven't faced any problem with the bike. You said that you are inclined towards Discover. I suggest you to go for it. It gives good mileage and has nice styling. You can test ride both the bikes and decide.

I don't think the 100cc market will become obsolete in the future since there is still demand for these bikes. IIRC, Bajaj had decided to shut down the 100cc segment, but they didn't do that and launched the discover. Honda also has plans of entering this segment.

Hmm okay. Was a great insight...really helpful..with experience!!

I also thought i'd expand my limit a little. Since i'll be getting the bike around Diwali time so i will surely get some off.

In Chennai the Discover DTS-Si is 47k on road, which i suppose would come around 43 - 45k during the same time. So in the same way, Discover 135 could come down. But there is some differences in the vehicle. 135cc has spring suspension where as 100 cc one has Nitrox. But on the whole would you say that 135cc Discover would be a good buy.

And i'm nearly 6ft. Would you think it would suit my size.

I test drove both bikes, i felt the pull in the bajaj while accelerating..but the Star was more of a time dependent pick up.

discover 135 is good but i dont think it'll be in your budgets reach, even after discounts(i guess,if there is any)...my vote goes for the discover and for your height, personality or whatever, the passion is also worth a try since it looks quite big than the other 100cc bikes and not to forget the resale value it commands.I don't want mislead, since you've already mentioned your choices, but it's my opinion...
It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

i suggest you to go for Star city. Recently they came with a variant called city sport not sure whether its a limited edition or not. In resale value as far as i know TVS is better than bajaj and I personally prefer star city too.Performance wise TVS star city is more consistent over the time but i doubt its the same with bajaj.

Why don't you think about the Yamaha Galdiator. It s got a bike feel, a great reliable engine and very good styling. The fit and finish of the bike is very good and you get to have the great tuning fork logos on you tank
