  • Please help me selecting my first bike(Fazer or Apache 160 FI)

    Hello all,

First of all, this place really looks gr8 for anyone looking for information on bikes. i should praise you guys for wonderful forum. Thanks a lot.

Comming to the point, this is my first post. I am planning to buy my first bike. I have read many reviews across internet and xbhp especially. I am bit confused between two bikes.

    1) new Yamaha Fazer (or) fz-s
    2) Apache 160 FI

    Here are my requirements
    1) good looking
    2) descent millage
    3) good technology
    4) ok with price upto 80-90K
    5) better handling in city traffic
    6) maintenance

i am ok with price upto 80-90K. i have good height.

I am so impressed with Fazer especially its, great looks, doom, big rear tyres and of course the confidence on Yamaha brand. Since i am going to use bike for first time, all my friends are suggesting me to not to buy Fazer as its huge machine, tough to handle and comparatively higher prised than any of the other 150 cc segment bikes.

If not, i am ok with either apache RTR 160 FI or FZ-s. I know both are good performing bikes. Please comments on Fazer usability and maintenance, RTR 160 FI millage after 1 yrs usage. I need suggestions from experts like you. Please help me.

    My confusions
    1) Fazer or FZ-s.
    2) any of the above compared to apache RTR 160 FI.

    My constrains
    1) First time bike user
    2) City driving

    Thanks in advance
    Pradeep

go for Yamaha FZ-s..its definitely a good bike according to ur requirements...the only negative point of fazer is its price over fzs...rtr fi is also a good bike,,,but fzs has got better refined engine, good looking, good tech, best handler in city traffic, low maintenance, less vibes..

Agreed that the Fazer is overpriced (81.5K OTR Hyd), but it does have the drool factor as far as looks are concerned. Handling not an issue-it just looks big.
Mileage wise it would not be as efficient as the RTR, neither power wise, but I would still recommend it to you keeping in mind the rock solid build quality of Japs. You really can't go wrong with them.
I also have a TVS bike since 5 years, though they have improved by leaps&bounds, I still prefer the Yam.

Why Apache RTR160 FI only?RTR 180 too is a Good Bike.Especially after seeing City Riding Conditions as a criteria.

in mileage front rtr fi wins the race..it can give a descent mileage around 50-55 kmpl..in return fzs can giv 35-40-45-50 kmpl...it varies a lot...i dont hav idea abt rtr180...might be 40-45 kmpl...

Is there any difference in the dimensions of the FZ-S and Fazer ... ??

I mean the length and wheelbase ...

Does anyone has the exact figures ??

You see, looks totally depend on personal perspective and differ from person to person!
Both FAZER and APACHE RTR are good looking for me.
Fazer is better because of its New-In-Class styling.
Whereas Apache RTR 160efi in Orange is absolute killer to me.
So insted of suggesting you sumthing I would rather ask you to go in showrooms, check all the colour and then decide which one takes the lead.
I would prefer Blue Fazer or Orange Apache Here!!

Fazer (City cruising) : 37-40 in first year and later varies in between 34-38.
                        Fazer (Highway cruising) :
                        42-45 constant..

                        APACHE EFI (City cruising) :
                        44-48
Apache EFI (City cruising) : 52-56..costant

NOTE : All the mileage statements are from my personal experience and are an outcome of decent driving conditions. (not overspeeding or useless breaking, righ gear shifts, etc)

P.S. - Apache Efi can give a mileage of 35kmpl and the same bike can make you tall to 58-60kmpl.
On the same time Fazer can give u 30kmpl or maybe 48kmpl.
So it extensivly Depends on the way u ride.
If ur a redline revver, over strainer of the engine in city/highway, stunter, poser boy then you may get a headache on the mileage and condition front.
On the contrary if ur a good rider, maintain an optimum speed, dont useless over accelerate or over break, stay in correct gears, dont strain the engine then you will have a beautiful feeling every time you fill your bikes tummy!!

                        Fazer : yamaha platform..
These japs are known for their engineering, fazer is no way an exception with good leaning capability, fine handler and WIDEST REAR TYRES etc!
                        Apache Efi :
Derived from TVS TRACK RACING experience..
RTR's are Commandable effort and final product.
RTR EFI are great Revvers, beautiful racing throttle response, their design and size are a great plus in city, etc !

Fazer : Great Leaner, flicable, Grippy on road, tyres add a plus, Low end and Mid range torque delivery is awsome, short gears arent for touring but are meant for better city usage, butter smooth gears etc!
One Cons :At one time Only one headlight assembly lights up for High beam/Low beam.
RHS headlight lights up for low beam and LHS headlight lights up high beam by default. (am Confused in btw RHS and LHS )

APACHE EFI : Simply superb revver mill, great power delivery in every gear, one of the best in acceleration and breaking depot.,
Great in handling, flicability on par, initial mid and upper end acceleration is superb etc, if you want to dissappear in traffic with your gf glued behind you and her dads eyes glued on both of you then this is the perfect mill.!

Fazer : vulnurable to dust and water, needs good maintenance for better results, Yamaha After sales depot. Needs alot of improvment, less space for mods due to restrictions!

Apache efi : needs lesser maintenance than Fazer, not that much prone to city conditions, TVS after sales is workin fine, Place for mods!

Its very sure RTR-Fi is better than Fazer in terms of Mileage.
But nothing can beat Fazer for its STYLE & LOOKS. TOPPER!!

You have topped good looking above the mileage in your requirement. But as first time biker in City mostly, you need to calculate the long term expenditure due to mileage difference around 10kmpl. you can forget about the rest, they all good with both these bikes.

RTR-Fi is also a goodlooking bike but it wont make you stand out from others like Fazer. It saves you some money.

If you get the limited edition buy the FZ S otherwise go for the Apache
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.
