Bajaj Avenger 220cc VS Yamaha Fazer

    Hi friends!!!
I need your views with this strange dilemma of my room-mate. He's not able to decide whether to opt for Avenger or the new Yamaha Fazer.

Lemme give you the required inputs:

He is approx. 5 ft 8 inches tall, weighs around 70kg. But he doesn't know driving bikes. He's driven scooter before, but he has never driven bikes. Well that's not a prob, he has a month or so in hand before he buys one... He'll learn...
I personally feel that he should opt for the Fazer, but he's smitten by Avenger because of its riding posture.... But of late, he's getting confused too...

Yeah, lemme tell you that he needs to drive daily for some 50 km in the busy roads of Chennai...
Please suggest a proper solution to this dilemma. There are many things which must be taken into account before purchasing your ride... Plus it's the 1st bike, so it must be special.

    Pls suggest...
    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

        Hi friends!!!

Cost : Fazer will be lesser (find out the difference yourself by enquiring at dealers)
Fuel Efficiency : Visit P220 DTSi ownership poll, you get avg. mileage of 220 dtsi engine at 30-35kmpl. Fazer can better this figure.
Engine : Yamaha Engine is far superior and niggle free and can last longer time.
Fun : Fazer is fun and riding it is a great pleasure, loads of torque and fun factor is very high on Fazer.
Quality & Reliability : Here's the big difference b/w the two bikes ! Everyone knows Yamaha produces finest bikes. Just find out yourself how owners of Av200/Av180 bikes rate their bikes ?

Go for YAMAHA FAZER , the true "LORD OF STREET "

considering 50km daily commute in city, i would opt for fazer because of its good handling. I'm assuming mileage is not an issure here and its not meant for touring purpose. fazer would give b/w 30-40 kmpl depending on the riding method. I cannot say anything about avenger but since it has a cruiser type riding posture i would not recommend it in heavy traffic.

since i own a fz these are the good & bad points of this bike as per my experience
          good:
          • very good handling
          • good enough low end torque for cities
          • refined engine and good build quality

          bad:
          • low mileage for an 150cc bike

if the bike is intended for highway or touring, NEVER go for fz/fazer,
          why-
          • bad performer above 70/80 kmph
          • low top speed for an 150cc bike
          • soft compound wide rear tyre s.u.c.k.s on bad roads, puncture prone.
          • gives very low mileage (30kmpl) if it's run continuously at high speeds (90-100+ kmph)
          • again a bad performer at high altitudes.. stalls a lot
          • riding posture uncomfortable for tall riders in long trips (at least for me)

for highway riding you must go with Avenger because of its extra comfort & power..but its not so good in city riding..it feels irritating to ride this bike in traffic..

for city purpose you must go with FZ/Fazer because of its handling & sufficient low end torque..but it just run out of breath on highways cuz of a low powered engine..

so now after looking at a daily run of 50kms i would suggest you to go with FZ/Fazer..

              Yes Yamaha.

@All: Thnx for your support. My roomie bought the Fazer a couple of days back. He isn't much of a tourer, so the machine will do him justice.

Thnx again. The thread maybe closed.
