  • plz help me to buy my first bike

    Hello all,
i am debayan from howrah[near kolkata]..this is going to be my first post.well from past six months i am searching here n there to find a suitable bike for me,but the more i am searching the more i am getting confused..well i'll be using it outside the kolkata city..since NH6 is just 2km frm my home n i use that way to reach my college so will drive on that way mostly..daily usage will be around 55km..that dsnt mean i wont run it inside city but may be once in a week or once in every 10dayz..n sometimes i have to go visit my mom's birthplace which is around 320km drive[up-down]..so that is my requirement ..am 5feet 9 and 80kg.

my initial choice was R15 but then after searching various communities in orkut i have found out that the sitting position is not comfortable enough..though i have driven one for 15mins n never felt it's odd but 15mins is too short to judge a bike i guess..but ye fz16 is more comfortable but again fz is good for city i guess..i dn know anything abt karizma zma/zmr but i think that's bit bulky i mean 195kg is too much n that wl decrease the fuel efficiency i guess..n i dn have any idea abt RTR FI/180..so can u plz suggest a bike that wl fulfill my requirements??

    thanks in advance..

P.S--pls dnt suggest any model of bajaj..i'll not buy any pulsar..that is just too common..

      Welcome to Xbhp..Btw,
According to your requirements you could go for ZMR if your budget fits you(Test ride & decide abt ZMR)..If it doesn't, you can prolly go for ZMA as its a proved tourer & good in handling too...

The ZMR or the Fazer. However even the R15 will do just fine. A lot of us are using it for extensive touring as well. Fazer reasoning is posted here http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/299362-post4.html and the ZMR is a tried and tested bike. Test ride both of them and decide which one suits you better.

The Zmr is 159 kgs not 196 . for a nice comfortable for your long rides go for KArizma ZMR . fazer would be too underpowered for your requirements .

also see R15 if you can tolerate the sporty seating position .RTR's also have seating posture similar to r15

ZMR will have a more comfy posture than R15, but R15 comes with own superior handling. I prefer the latter for city usage&former should be better going by ZMA-R for highways.

thanks for all ur valuable suggestions.I never thought of having a karizma,wl have a test ride den..r15 n karizma is almost same in price segment i guess...but incase of karizma there is 73cc more than r15..but does it has a liquid cooled engine??n what abt the mileage..since i am still a student i hv to take care abt that also..although anything near 40[38-45] is good for me..one of my frnd has a new p220dtsi..his bike gives 34kmpl avg mileage..so may i expect that from karizma zmr also??

Reading your requirements i think Karizma will be your best option..
i am riding karizma for last few months and i can tell you it is super comfortable in highways .. The riding position and the relaxed feeling you get from it is unmatched . I dont think HH will allow to test drive Karizma so better get it from any of your friends who are using it and
take it to highway .. drive it on high speeds , try to crusise on 80 and then push it to 100 , 110 and 120 , you will just love it..

Regarding the mileage .. Let me tell you this frankly
If you ride in city you will get only 35
If you ride in highway smoothly you will get around 42
If you are riding it above 100 for hours it will give only 30

And regarding the new karizma ZMR , you can go for it if you feel ok spending around 95
ZMr mileage will be anyways more than present Kaizma since it has same engine and FI (even though it is 10 Kg more) ..

But dont expect it to the fastest machine . whether Karizma or new ZMR it cannot match the p220 in top speed or acceleration and p220 will give you descent mileage also .p220 is less priced also ..It is up to you who has to decide which type of bike you need.

But if you want a bike that gives good comfort and good power and relaxed feeling and better refined engine just go for Karima R or new ZMR according to your budget you will just LOve it

                  All the best

@debayan : Go for Zma-R/ZMR if initial cost and running cost is not a bother......else you can consider Unicorn or GS150R (~8kmpl more mileage plus big savings on initial cost).

                      @debayan: u cant go wrong with ZMA-R ..... its a proven machine....
and if you do not have a budget issue then wait for ZMR ...it will fulfill your needs .....it looks promising to me ...

ZMA-R all the way...btw,ZMR looks promising and the mileage is said to be around 45kmpl,definitely higher than the existing zma(acc to BI mag)...If you can wait, then the ZMR it is.Patience pays
It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

Go for the Karizma ZMR. Your bike will be unique on the roads.

hey buddy i have considered fazer also..but after visiting yamaha dealer i changed my idea..fazer is gr8 bike no doubt..but same as fz16..the front part has been been changed i guess for that it lacks a lil amt. of power also[that's what i felt no offence to anyone],sitting position is same as fz16 which is very comfortable but again when u test drive r15,fz16,fazer at the same time u'll always fall in love with r15 i am no exception i guess...but i guess i have to wait for karizma zmr as most of them out here suggested me to go for karizma..

thank u very much guys for ur support n analysis..wl surely let u ppl know whenever i'll buy the bike..
