  • RE s got me confused ...electra or machismo!!

    hey guys ,
after owning a series of pulsars for like 5 years , i think its time to settle down now...meaning ,buy a RE...i ll be using it in delhi and occasionaly for long rides (>1000 kms)...

Im really confused between the electra , machismo 350, and the standard 350...

I do want the thump, a little lesser manitainenece till i get the hang of the ropes, something like 30 + fuel efficiency ....

Would the guys who ve had experience of the three shed some light ? also, all the RE showrooms in Delhi are telling me that the machismo is out of production currently...is that true ??

    Cheers

@kamikaze: You only answered your question.... If you don't need thump and lesser maintenance, obviously it is Machismo. But.. If you have enough moolah' just go for 500LB or settle for 350.

I own a Electra 5S, getting mileage around 25kmpl in city... You can expect around 35 in Machismo

And.. Machismo is still under production.

      Happy Biking

Don't buy the std 350. Either go for electra or machismo 350 or if possible the 500LB. And no the machismo (500) is not out of production yet , someone (navpreet from tbhp) bot one from delhi two days back.

          @RKB

the thump is a deciding factor for sure man....so , i guess i might be ruling the AVLs (t'bird and machismo) out...but i read something about a goldstar silencer that really gives a good bass thump on the AVL s as well...so , thats like extra confusion .... do you have any idea how that sounds ??

          @niks_devil
yes brother i have ruled out the standard ....So now its the electra 5s vs TBTS vs Machismo (the latter two with an exhaust modification of some sort that gives decent thump)

The electra 5s figures in just because i ve ridden one with a short bottle silencer , and i did like the beat !!!! So if i could get an AVL to sound like that i ll buy that !!

i guess i ll be test riding all of them tomorrow...

edit: i did call up all the dealers in the NCR region today.. i ve been told that the production quotas (??) for the machismos have been met ...so , no more of them for this month...I did found the machismo s in stock in chandigarh... so , I guess it must be some Delhi thing

All three bikes are one of their kinds.

If you want to go for a sweet old look & mechanism of a Bullet, go with STD 350 - Mileage not more than 30.

If you are looking for something in the same lines of STD, go for Electra, it's just that it has same kind of engine (cast iron) and the looks differ - you get options with the colour. Mileage 30+ but < 40. Has a good pick-up then the STD.

Machismo no doubt has a STD look but the engine mounted is AVL (cast iron and aluminum mix) which gives a rattling noise while driving, mileage in city 35+.. highways 40+. Has a good pick-up.

For all the above bikes, *thump* can be worked by changing the silencer - Goldstar is the best option.

Fellow bulleters, please correct me if I am wrong!

My vote would go for the Electra 5S, Its reliable, Mileage of 30 - 35 avg and being the classic Cast Iron engine it retains a lot of the Royal Enfiled legacy like the thump and the comfort. Whilst the AVLs have a charecteristic rattle from the Tappets and the STD 350 retains all the classic value but is a tad un reliable. So the Electra 5s is the right balance offering you the best of both worlds and great Value for money.

Hope this helps clear the confusion.

man i am agreeing a lot with you yamahatrooper. @OP - if you want best of both worlds, go with the electra 5s. Gives you the thump to your rump and the 5speed helps keep the engine stress free and gives a good performance also.

maintenance wise all models are more or less same, other than the new twinspark engine, needing comparatively lesser attention.

i was getting 40+ kmpl easy in city on my T-bird, now its around the 35 mark.

The electra should give about 35-37 easily.

                - Yamaha RXZ 5 speed

                  Guys

It seems im pretty much set on the electra , but i guess i ll finally decide after test riding each of these , the electra does seem to be the best of both worlds ..Just a couple of things in my mind though :

                  1. Should i go for the electra 4s or 5s , I m pretty sure i could get used to the right foot gear shift in time , so any benefit of choosing the 4s over 5s or vice versa ?? Is the ES and front disc available in the 4s ??

2.Can the goldstar or the short bottle silencer be used during the run in period , or specifically , from the beginning itself ?? I read somewhere it shouldnt be because it reduces the back pressure on the valves , or something like that...

As far as I know they have stopped selling the Electra 4S and when it was available the Front disk was optional on it. Not sure about the ES. The benefit with the 5S would be the taller 5th cog which would be great for cruising and also will boost Fuel Efficiency.

I suggest you stick with the Stock pipe thru the Run in process.

yes they have stopped selling Electra 4s.

I took my Thunderbird twinspark yesterday. But i like electra 5s more. what to do i have to chose TBTS for the reliability.but even the showrrom people are telling electra 5s will give 25-28 kmpl. even 2 of my frnds are also getting similar figure.

If you dont care about mileage, and if u think u will be able to sort out any issues of bullets please go for Electra 5s.

Electra 5s is one to go for...though the mileage is on the lower side.Electra 4s is out of production i guess. There's only one version of Electra available and costs around 98k here in b'lore...
