  • Which scooter?

    Hey guys,

I want to buy a gearless scooter for my sister. Since there are already many models in the market and many new ones have been launched lately, I am a bit confused as to which one should I select.

Budget and mileage is not a problem. The daily use will be about 20 km.
I am looking for a scooter which would be comfortable to ride and has low maintenance.

Please advice me guys as I intend to buy it soon.

    Thanks in advance

Go for Honda Activa or TVS Streak. Both are low on maintenance. Activa has 110cc engine and is powerful than TVS Streak which has 90cc engine. If your sister wants the scooter to be light and small, TVS streak is the one to go. Otherwise, Activa will be the best option.

If you cannot wait for three months to get Activa, you can consider Mahindra Flyte too.

I believe that Honda Activa is the best gearless scooter in the Indian market today. If she can handle it then go for the Activa.
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

i would strongly recommend the streak if u care for comfort, having ridden it myself. streaks rear suspension is much better than activa . trust me. it also looks good. but power & performance wise its a little behid activa. mileage is better than activa

If sales and service of mahindra is not a concern do consider rodeo or duro seriously...! The most responsive scoots with a lovely packge at very competitive prices...!

If you are a "play-safe" kinda guy, access is probably the scoot...!

My personal opinion about Honda scoots is that they are overrated, overpriced and underpowered. I myself own/owned two of them (Dio and Eterno). No doubt they are good...but market has a lot more to offer and much better products at similar or even lesser price tags...!

              All the best!

              2006 - Eterno (sold)

Thanks for the quick approval bro!

Thanks a lot guys for all the suggestions.

Actually, I am interested in buying a big scooter so I have ruled out the scooty.

I already have an Activa so I am not too keen on buying it. Will consider it if I could not choose any other scooter.
How good is the Aviator with front disc? Does it make substantial difference in braking?
I am also interested in the Rodeo and Access. But how is the after sales service of both of them?

                So I have shortlisted
                1. Aviator/Activa
                2. Access
                3. Rodeo

Will take a test ride of them and see which one is comfortable.

Moeed, Aviator is a very good scooter with front disc brake (3-piston calipers with combi braking system) and telescopic suspension. The engine is now 110 cc producing 8 bhp. The scooter handles very well due to disc brakes and telescopic suspension. It is a good choice if you like it. The hight of the seat is more than other scooters and small persons have difficulty in putting the legs on the road for balance. This scooter is made keeping in view the office-goers.

I have been using the Aviator for the past one month.

Have riding experience of 3 gear-less scooters. Honda Duo - Brother in law's, Honda Activa - Wife's and Suzuki Access - Mother in law's.

If you prefer something light weight and good handler, i would suggest you to try Duo from the above options.

If you prefer handling and performance - Suzuki Access is the way to go.

If you want the balance of Handling and performance, prefer activa, cause Activa is not an outright performer, it's a bit on the heavier side and handling can be considered ok.

Personal note: i ride R15, but whenever i ride Activa, my hand starts paining, but that's not the case with Duo & Access. plus the seating arrangement of new activa pulls my butt towards staring, which i find very frustrating.

                    Best of luck.

My vote goes to Mahindra Rodeo. Incredible features. The underpinnings would be most probably based on the Kinetic Flyte - competent performer in its days.

Problem with Rodeo and Flyte is low ground clearance = scrapings at every speedbraker with pillion. These scoots are good for only the rider.

Thanks again for all the replies. As I said earlier, I am interested in a big scooter since I might also ride it sometime, so I ruled out the Streak.

Test rode the Access and Aviator today. Had to go to 3 different showrooms of Honda inorder to test ride the Aviator as it was not available at the first two. I just can't understand why can't they keep a vehicle for test ride. I remember, when I went to Toyota to test ride the Innova, they gave it to me in a jiffy.

Though, both the Access and the Aviator felt comfortable, I liked the Aviator more since it has a taller riding stance.

Went to TVS to check out the Wego, but the showroom guy told me that it'll take another 1.5 month for it to reach the showrooms.

Didn't get to test ride the Rodeo, as the battery of that vehicle was down. Will check it tomorrow.
