  • To Leh & Riding positions for long rides - Pulsar 180 DTS-i UG IV vs Karizma/ZMR

    I test rode the new Pulsar 180 DTS-i UG IV (clip-on handlebars, tube-less tyres, split seat) over a very short distance. The first thing i noticed as i climbed on was that i had to stretch my legs lower to reach the foot rest (i am 5 feet 10.5 inches). My friend told me that this was to give the bike a sportier look.

    1)Do you think that this would actually make for a more comfortable riding position over long distances or should i be avoiding this.
    I like taller and longer bikes like the Karizma, but really speaking, i have never rode either of these bikes (apart from a Pulsar 150 which i rode for half an hour or so; i had not found it to be uncomfortable).
    2) Also, will i be able to take a Pulsar 180 from Manali to Leh. What about ZMA/ZMR?
    3) Would the lack of Fuel Injection in the P180 DTS-i UG IV cause any problems on the road to Leh from Manali.
    4) Would the PGM-Fi of ZMR help at the altitudes on Manali-Leh?
    5) What is the mileage for a Pulsar 180 DTS-i UG IV?
    6) What is the mileage for the Karizma ZMR? and for Karizma R?
    7) And finally, would a Yamaha R-15 be able to go to Leh as well?

    So many questions...

    On an average, the Zma is more comfortable than almost any Pulsar. I cannot however comment on either the ZMR or the new 220DTSI.

    None of the Pulsars will face too many problems at higher altitudes, that is a given. The Zma will face quite a bit. The newer ZMR should not face any such problems.

    Can't say much about fuel efficiency. My 220 Fi does 600kms with 700 Rs of gas on an average no matter what the terrain.

    There is no reason why a R15 should not make it to Leh.

      I don't see any problems in the sitting posture of Pulsar...that said,Zma is more comfortable like ken da said

      definitely yes...zma/zmr too are better candidates

      would be an advantage for sure

      should be getting around 45kmpl mark

      35-40...that's the mileage of my zma.
      7) And finally, would a Yamaha R-15 be able to go to Leh as well?
      I don't see why it can't

        The best thing you can do is to test ride all the bikes you have shortlisted, and see which one is the most comfortable for you. Based on this, you can make a good choice.
