Yup that is what i meant and to state it explicitly i don't think its very nice for civilians to use facilities meant only for defence personnel. Not being snobbish or anything just that defence personnel give away a lot in life and such facilities should be left for them.
        respect ma authoritae!!

I'm an Air Force Kid. I find it really suprising to find so many people intrested to buy bikes under CSD, for one, I do'nt buy it.

There are lot of hassles. Sometimes the bikes bought under CSD also have qualitative issues, and then there are problems with specific dealers and specific bikes which are covered under CSD. Waiting period is more, and so is the problem with colour options.

Infact to an extent lot's of Defence people prefer to buy stuff like, Vehicles/Electronics direclty from outside, just to save the troubles.

My Family's (1) Maruti 800 (1991), (2) Hero Puch (1992) were only brought to CSD, later vechicles like our Esteem, Accent, Pulsar-150/180/220 have been bought off the shelf.!

BTW for a car worth 8 lakhs, the difference is 45,000/- so for a Ninja 250 of 3 Lakh - you do the math.

                U forgot both p220's.
Thats true. Majority are civilians and most of the defence people who go are still serving. Hardly a few retired personnel go.
I take my friends to canteen and they buy all the household stuff and finish the 10k limit. I just buy a few soft drinks for myself when i take them to the canteen. Even my dad buys the liquor for his friends!

Very ture, CSD has got lots of hassles...And every payment is through Demand Drafts only...

And missed an important point...Once you buy a vehicle under CSD...you are not supposed to get another till next 5 years. Same with most of the home appliances and cars.

I changed 3 bikes....all were direct and not CSD. Next change i will try from CSD.

BTW...i think only the card holders are allowed inside. I went only once with my dad's card...into a Airforce canteen...but later they denied. But my mom is allowed.

Yes, these days you need to have the Card. But as a dependent we also have our cards.

I'm not sure about vehicles. But I think appliances can be bought as many times, barring the purchase limit.
