I am new to this forum. I was wondering if I could get some help with selecting a bike I am planning to buy in April. I have not yet owned a bike until now. However I am comfortable driving two wheelers. I am a 6 foot tall guy but pretty lean. I am looking for a bike that is decently powerful, very comfortable to ride, looks nice and gives a decent mileage. I would probably use it for around 15kms a day and longer on weekends. Also, I hope I would not have to spend more than 55k on road (Bangalore). I had so far been reading reviews about gladiator and P135. However I am undecided. I am open to other suggestions as well. Thanking you in advance.

Gladiator good bike but Outdated. I would recommend going with the Pulsar 135LS. Gladiator cannot match Pulsar135LS speed and handling ability. See some review on it, and I can undoubtedly say its the best pulsar yet.Originally posted by girmual View PostHi guys,

Gladiator mileage is a also a problem, and is soon going to phase out and the new Yamaha SZ is coming in its place by June.
I recommend you test ride both the bikes, and see on which you feel comfortable.

Welcome. Since you are new here as well as new to motorcyces, it may be worthwhile to check out the forums. There hell of a lot of information. Once you get better informed perhaps then you can be more specific as to what sort of opinion you would like to hear from us. Well you don't actually have to go through the entire website. This "What Bike?" section as well as "Motorcycle Ownership Experiences" will be a good start.
Being new to motorcycle does not necessarily mean you have to start with a small bike. To be honest, almost all motorcycle available in India (250 and below) are suitable for begineers. So you have a vast variety to choose from as your budget permits. Not to forget you're a big man, almost all mentioned bikes will look small on you anyway

Hi Guys, thanks for the reply. Yeah I have been going through the previous posts and ownership experiences. Infact became undecided only after that. Had been sure of buying a gladiator before. But then saw that a lot of people had troubles with rusting and skidding. However people owning the P135 also seem to have problems with engine oil leaks. How serious are these issues?
I have not been in India for the past 6 odd months and won't be there for another month. So I will have to wait until then before I went for a TD. I wanted to buy the vehicle first thing after coming back. So I am trying to narrow my options as much as possible.
Regarding the CB twister, I have not really seen a twister on road. But it looks very nice, very sporty from the pictures. However would 9 bhp be enough? True it would be sufficient for riding in bangalore, but am a little worried if I have to go driving on a highway would that be enough?
How are the HH bikes? Hunk wouldn't fall inside my budget I believe. How about the achiever?

hh bikes are very reliable and u get a decent power and mileage .but only thing is it will cost u 66k onroad ..if u are ready to spend 11k more then go for it or else go for stunner or twisterOriginally posted by girmual View PostHi Guys, thanks for the reply. With so many choices, its apparent that anyone can get confused. This is not only for the novice but experts as well. The days of choosing either a bullet or yezdi is over.
I have gone through numerous threads and posts to come to a conclusion.
People either let their "Head" choose or allow their "Heart" to choose.
Okay now since we have to managed narrow down the choice to just two
. i.e. Head vs Heart. You'll have to see which one wins.
Though it may sound comical, this is a fact regardless of ones expertise in machines. If your heart is set on a particular machine, you will go for it regardless of its shortcomings. If your head is set on a particular machine, you will go for it regardless of what others think.
I too had my own battle of the heart & mind when I purchased mine. The mind ultimately won.
Perhaps it is time you start providing more specific information about yourself and what you want. Then we could give our opinion based on it.
For example.
1. How old are you - Why? Same bike is not necessarily suitable for two individuals having same weight/weight.
2. Riding style - speedster, easy rider, tourer, want to go from point A to Point B etc.
3. Physical - You have already mentioned.
4. Buddget - $$$$
5. Bike has to be - very reliable? ok as long as its got power? Want to reach the moon on a teaspoon of petrol? Sexy? nothing but the latest?
Stuff like that.
BTW, I saw the new kid on the block, the new pulsar 135LS on road. loose those rear mudguard and its a looker. Performance is on par with 150s. Cannot comment on reliability, but given Bajaj's track record, it may be lower than its competitions. Remember what I said....the heart...you'll overlook its shortcomings
. HH?...mmmm...The head speaketh?. Just provide more info as mentioned, others will gladly help. But you need to help them help you.

IMO i would like to say one thing.. for your height, both the 135ls, and the twister will be slightly diminutive bikes... i suggest something bigger, which the gladiator is, or the ahiever, or even the CBF125, though thats ahead of your budget.

You guys are wonderful ...Originally posted by kaynmantis View Postyou need to help them help you.
... ok, I will first answer all the questions you have asked me ...
1. How old are you - I will be 24 this June. A young professional if I may call myself so ...
2. Riding style - I am not much of a speedster ... I would prefer the ride to be comfortable ... having said that I would be happy if I can find a bike that pulls along nicely in spite of being comfortable ...
3. Physical - I am 6' 1" tall and I weigh 60 Kilos.
4. Budget - Around 55K
5. Bike has to be - It should be an all rounder. It should look good (not necessarily drop dead gorgeous), should be decently powerful, should give a decent mileage and should be comfortable ... I am basically looking for a vehicle that is not top of the class in any department, but something that would do well in all the departments ... And also as I expect the coming months to be really busy for me, it would be nice if it didn't make me worry about it too much ...

achiever is no longer sold in blore and maybe elsewhere too...but for your kind of riding, gladi suits just fine...but having ridden the baby pulsar yesterday,i quite blown away. It's just too perfect IMO(styling is subjective)...earlier i used to suggest the gladi to everyone but it's the LS now...you do get the basic version of shine and flame in that price bracket but better keep your preferences to the first two bikes...It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

Achiever days are gone now. Its no more selling in India. I recommend sticking with Gladiator or Pulsar 135LS. CB Twister is no doubt a good bike, but will feel underpowered when riding on highways. And your budget is quite good for a 125CC class, so why look towards a 110CC bike.Originally posted by girmual View PostHow much does the achiever cost On-Road in Bangalore?? The achiever web-page on the HH website doesn't even open ...
There are some rusting problems on Gladiator, and also Oil leaks on Pulsar 135LS, but limited to very few people. I have seen 2-3 of my friends riding Pulsar 135LS and they don't have such problem at all. So better check up the bike before purchasing.
Still I recommend, once you come back here, first go do a test ride of both these bikes. See which feels better to ride, and you are comfortable in.
