  • Decision between Aviator 110c and new Dio

    Hi All,

My wife would like to buy a scooterette.

She has narrowed down it to Aviator and Dio

    Information:
    1. Either of them are not issues with height factor. She can plant both her feet on the ground easily
    2. She likes the looks of both of them. No particular preference in looks department

Her only issue with Aviator is that will she be able to handle it. It "looks" big, so her concern is whether it is too heavy.

I tried to get weight info from the salesmen there, they gave very vague answers

So is aviator quite heavier than dio or is it just psychological?

P.S. I had checked all the threads discussing about aviator, but did not find this particular query addressed

I did a quick search on the net and see that the Aviator weighs 102kgs while the Dio weighs 99kgs. A difference of three kilograms is not a big deal, in my opinion, although this weight is close to that of 100cc-125cc motorcycles.

Based on this difference, I would recommend the Aviator because generally more weight means better stability (of course, if you cannot handle the weight at lower angles, then this wouldn't apply).

If your wife can handle both these models without any serious issues while riding, you should go for the Aviator. If not, look for some other brand/model that's a lot lighter. Take both of them for a test ride on the same day/time and decide.

        Advantages of Avaitor over Dio:
        • Front telescopic suspension, which aides in better handling and ride quality.
        • 12 inch front wheel aides in better handling and quick truns. Cornering is easier than other scooters.
        • Larger underseat storage (22L which can take a bigger half-face helmet under) (Dio's underseat storage is smaller)
        • Bigger 110 cc engine which has more power and gives 15% more mileage (Dio still has 102 cc engine and is less powered now)
        • The floor board is wide and flatter than Dio. You can carry a 20L can without touching the walls of the scooter.
        • Commanding and comfortable riding position.
        • Strong build quality.
        • Better headlight illumination with halogen bulb (Dio has normal bulb)
        • Combined Braking System.
Regarding the weight difference, a 3-4 kg difference is not any big. Aviator looks big, but it does not ride big, it is very very comfortable to ride and very good to handle than a Dio.

          Owners Review

          Hi,
i bought an Aviator just last month for my dad to use,
i had take it out for a spin when i went home last weekend. i found the scotter very impressive.. the ride position is great and it give a good big fell while riding. it doesn't weight much.. Don't worry about the weight factor.. So compared with Deo yes this has a better ride quality and Looks too. and yeah the above posted points shows what exactly Deo differs when compared with avaitor.

Thanks for the inputs regarding weight.
Her concern was only whether aviator is very much heavier than dio. After reading your posts her confidence has boosted up.

So in Aviator I have my own doubt.
To go for disk brakes or not?

I as such would like to go for disk brake as I know very well the importance of disk brake (I drive Pulsar 220 and the front brake has helped me a lot).

But since aviator will be driven mostly by my wife, would it be recommended for her. My concern is that she might not be able to handle the brake power.

Go ahead with disc brake. The braking is very progressive and not sharp (remember the bite is not like the big bikes with disc brakes) . She would learn how good it is in very less time and once used to it, she would feel very confident.

Small suggestion, as she is not very confident with the disc brake, make her practice the braking on empty stretch. It would help immensely.

I have the aviator and the front disc brake has really helped me in some tight situations. It is extremely stable at around 75kmph which is almost the maximum it can go (the wait gets boring after that). Dio gets a little scary at that speed as it starts to wobble a little. The seating position is definitely taller and many women find it uncomfortable. But since you say height is not a problem i'd say definitely go for the aviator(disc).
                Cheers.

                  My 2 cents
Aviator is better than Dio on all possible conditions & thanks to all our folks there (especially to Ravi@17bhp for all valuable points) who've provided their expert opinions

                  - Go without Disc Brakes
                  - provided no one freaks out the scooter in 60's & 80's on a narrow allies - hope you got my point
                  - if you're little bit cost concious

                  Go with the Disc Brakes...
                  - only if you have that sufficient extra money & if it were a loan - a strict NO NO
                  - if you're planning to freak out in scooter

On a sane driving conditions, you really don't need disc brakes, but if you've that extra money then go for it, you'll not regret either.

Last month I was just checking honda motorcycles and looked at aviator, out of curiousity drove a test ride, and i bought it, its an amazing ride. In a month i have driven 60 KM and its marvellous, If it had a small body like activa or dio I wouldnt have touched it at any cost. Its been very stable and lovely ride, i am 6' and weigh 100 KG and it can make me feel great comfort while driving at 70+ speeds, feels like i am playing a video game.
