  • Confused between Classic 350 and thunderbird

    Dear All,

I have booked a Royal Enfield Classic 350 two months back. But till date I haven't got the delivery. The dealer wants another 10-15 days but even though he's not sure of the exact delivery date.

Now I have another question, I am now confused whether I should opt for Thunderbird as it is available. I know as far as the engine is considered both the classic 350 and the thunderbird are exactly same.

But I am confused about the looks. I am 29, height 5'9". My friends say I should go for the thunderbird as it is more appealing. I am really confused.
Should I go for the thunderbird? As now even I feel that thunderbird will be a better choice between the two.

Does the thunderbird have the same thump as that of the classic? If required the silencer can be changed as I don't like the original silencer that comes with both the bikes.

Thunderbird has 19" tyre as compared to 18" of the classic. Does it makes any difference?

I am totally confused. Any one who has driven both of them please advice.

    Kindly help ....

    Deepak

In a conversation with a cornering addict and a person who's advice in a bike's handling i trust to be spot on, the 18 inch rims on the classic 350 aids in better handling while taking corners.

Engine wise there is no difference in the two bikes, hence same for the thump.

Classic has a look of a "Bullet" where as thunderbird is thunderbird. both are equally comfy to ride.
what you feel apealing is what is imporant.

i would suggest, dont go for thunderbird just because you are getting it earlier...its not this or that...you are buying a RE bike, wait and get what you always wanted to.

I have ridden both the old bullet 350 and new thunderbird twinspark and both are great. The bullet is really good to ride and you can get a royal feel about the bike.
But as the price of the classic comes at around 1.25lakh onroad, I would suggest the new thunderbird. The thunderbird has twinspark and has bajaj's dtsi like technology. Overall, the ride quality is more comfortable than the bullet. You get the feeling of a cruiser bike. mileage is also more and is in the range of 30-40kmpl.
My opinion is if you have to ride around 50-100 km a day, go for the thunderbird, the classic 350 is only for ownership thrills.
          Reduce 1 km/hr speed, add 1second 2 ur life.

apart from looks, there are only three better things in classic, as it is latest version..

            1. better electricals. all DC setup. I guess, 55W bulb not 35W(not sure on this one.)
            2. better handling as 18" tyres. Also more options available for switch in market for 18" than 19".
            3. don't remember

go for where your heart goes.. and wait have it's own fruit

it sure has a 55w bulb...

the classic costs just a couple of grands more than TB and sure has some features to justify it.But except for that,I don't see you going wrong with the T'bird...

just to point out.. The rear wheel on the CL350 is 18, the front is still 19 inches. and on the Tbird both are 19 inches..

We both are in same boat, but i am leaning towards thunderbird, i have seen c350 and i was less then impressed with looks, probably i want a macho looking ride. but the plastic patches on oil tank of c350 look rubbish.

                      Question:
Then why did you book the Classic in the first place bro? Isn't that because you liked it??? Well, now u seem to be compromising urself because ur getting impatient.

apart from a few EXTRA reasons mentioned here, I feel its more of a personal opinion.
I feel u should go for the Classic as it looks Fresh and Classy. Nice tyres, I love the new MRF's on it.
Can you remove half of the TBTS's seat??? Nopes

Somehow, I feel the TBTS is not a PROPER bullet at all..It doesn't fit into the cult.

Please note: this is purely personal opinion. Opinion sure does differ from person to person.

                        Hi there...

Thanx for the suggestions, but am still very confused.
I have a daily run of only 15-20 kms and its not that I am switching over to the thunderbird because I m getting impatient.

Price wise both the thunderbird and the classic 350 costs more or less same. The t'bird is only cheaper by 1-2 grands.

Does the pride of the bullet gets washed down in the t'bird ?
Looks wise I like the t'bird but from the heart I want to own the classic.
Now I am confused as to whether I should follow my Heart or my Brain?

                        Please Help.

Don't worry bro. If you mostly wanna ride the bike in city(commuting purpose) then CL350 hands down. And if you plan to ride on highways for the most part of your commute TBTS will do it. Not that CL350 ain't good for highways but TBTS has the laid back cruiser feeling to it. All in all take a test ride and then decide.

My advice- If you are into cruiser style of riding, TBTS, cuz it takes some adjusting to in city traffic, other than that CL350. It's my personal opinion.
