@KA18, yes you can put the 18inch wheel from the classic onto the electra. You can even put a smaller wheel if you so want, but this is not the point! See...the rear fender on electra has been designed as per the 19inch wheel size, so if you are going to put a smaller rear wheel, it will spoil the looks as the fender will end up looking much bigger for the 18inch wheel. And I am sure that you won't like to spoil the looks, so you'll again have to do something for the rear fender as well. Why go all through this when you can get a better RE right out of factory in every aspect?? I agree about the waiting period, but personally I'll wait for it

And ya, just checked on RE website, disc brake is standard on electra as well! But classic is undoubtedly way better

    ...upto you!

      Hi all,

I came back from a visit to my trusted mechanic day before yesterday with a query in my mind, failing to understand why it was so, or was it even really so?

The question bugging me was about the mechanic's comment that the Classic 350 had a better accelaration & power delivery compared to the now UCEed Electra. I know from experience that people can say which may not at all be true but because they feel a certain way. The reason I chose to cling onto this question was when I test rode both, & I indeed felt the ride being better on the classic, albeit the low stance. The Electra felt higher. All I knew was that the bikes had techincally same engines.

Anybody who would want to comment on this please?

And oh by the way, call me old school, but the unrefined nature of the CIs still felt a lot more refined to me compared to the UCEs although I am sure they are techincally way better & suited to the future.

I can understand better accelaration due to the smaller rear wheel.

I received a call from the Karnataka Sales head, Mr.Deepak Rajkumar, today and he patiently answered all my doubts.

1.He clarified that there is absolutely no difference in the engines and carburettors of the STD350 - Electra - TBTS and CL350.

2.Regarding issue of EFI in CL500, he said it was in a few isolated cases only and not generic and they are addressing the same.

3.Absolutely no new bookings for CL350 until current backlog is cleared. The new bookings when open will be delivered only next year!

4.Bookings for CL500 will be open after this month.

          5.All 350cc bullets mileage is around 40 and 500 is 30.

He also told me about the manufacturing process, the export market, etc.,.
I discussed a lot more issues with him, but they cannot be posted here.

Improved acceleration is due to the smaller tyre size.

I recall lots of guys changing their RX100 and Bullet's rear wheel to that of the Yezdi 250 for improved power delivery and stability, but with a drop in the economy.

            Hey buddy,

Yeah, I also thought that the smaller wheel size could be the reason but thanks a lot for confirming as I had doubts, but then apart from just the accelaration, the overall ride felt a lot better. I mean, one of the things like a lower stance helped improve the dynamics to a great extent. I have to agree with one of the members who mentioned that CL350 has a better handling.

Anyways, thank you for the response. And yes, like KA18 has mentioned, the mechanic also informed that the bookings for CL350 are now closed as there's a huge backlog. Also there is about 7 months booking period on CL500 & due to this the bookings for that also are about to be closed for some time in recent future.

            Thanks. Ride safe.

The new Electra has the same UCE engine that is in thunderbird and the classic 350...other than that, it is the same as the previous electra, i mean the tyres, chassis, shockers n all. The new engine is only going to make Electra faster and more reliable. That is all there is to it. Spend a little more, and you will get a bike which is all this and more, the Classic!!

See, the new classic 350 has better dynamics, yes it does!! I believe that you are overlooking one of the very important criteria in classic 350, the rear tyre. It is much better, I am not talking about its looks! Instead I am talking about the way it has changed the handling of the classic for the better! It has a rounder profile, is wide and its 18 inches!! The classic 350 is a noticeably better handler than any previous RE by a good margin! And ya, the tyre looks better too! I think the chassis is different too, but i am not sure about it though! Overall, the classic will be a better performer anywhere than the Electra due to better handling characteristics even with the same engine!

Moreover, you get disc break as standard fitment too on the classic, so no more I-am-in-two-minds-about-having-disc-break things!!!

I would personally advice you to ride a classic, and eventually go for it, I will do the same if I will go for another bullet! But then, that's me! But yes, without doubt, personal opinion aside, both the Classics are better REs to buy today

                  Cheers!
The chassis is same. The ironical thing is that although the weight of UCEs and
CL is 180 kgs i.e almost 10 kgs more than CIs(170kgs) and they share the same chassis. This is what i was told by RE and also read in one of the leading mags.
IMHO the wait of 6 months for CL350 wasn't worth it. That is why i went for UCE ELECTRA although i had made up my mind for 5s. To each his own. In my case practicality and need was more important than sheer love for CL.(although i love its look)...........but i'll get it later on................

Isn't the Electra 5S is a retired model?.....all the REs now with UCE have 5 speed transmission. You resonate my thoughts when you say the wait for CL350 is not worth, since all the REs have exactly the same tech specs....except for CL500, for obvious reasons....and also that the CL twins have a smaller rear wheel....Personally I'd love to have the standard model for its sheer raw looks, but it doesn't have DB or Electric start....Electra is definitely more practical to drive also as many of us have said it time and again there's a lot we can do with an electra......personally I liked the looks of CL however the colors they provide are a disappointment...with the classic I'd love to have beige, olive, khaki...even white would do. Also I might add that even though CL is a good ride its not very comfortable in long hauls because of its flat saddle seat..unlike the curved fron seats in RE Machismo....if its CL...then make it 500 else nothing's better than the electra.....all the best for your Electra bro...I'd be getting mine between 10-20 june. NO idea about the weight issue though!!

Yeah bro. 5s is a retired model but it was still available here in NCR till March. The new UCE STD doesn't have a disc which in my opinion is stupid as big bikes like these should have a disc for better braking.
And the wait for UCE Electra is worth it.(atleast a month or so) I bought mine on 22nd of March. Have done 1500 kms to be precise as i type this. No hassles, no 'marking territories', nothing at all.... It's fast too. You'll enjoy it immensely. BUT the thump is muffled. You may get disappointed but you can get the silencer changed. It might make a difference.I'm keepin' it stock.I'm not too keen on the loud thump though my dad's '92 STD is there to satisy that craving..lol.. I got the kickstart for myself. Was doubtful about the electric start...maintenance issues n stuff.. keep it simple,ol' school. Thats my mantra. It's fairly easy to kickstart it. You can check the pics of my 'red bull' in the PICS THREAD OF ROYAL ENFIELD OWNERS.

                                Choice between Thunderbird & Electra

Looking for Classic 350 & visited the dealer last sunday but disapointed by knowing that booking for same is stopped until Dec. 10 due to over booking of sameone.

Shifted towards Thunderbird & Electra as dealer told both got new engines from Classic 350.

My first preference is Thunderbird but with Classic 350 styled silencer & shorter tyres & lower side seating like Bajaj Avenger is it possible to do so & what is the cost to do so.

on contrary to my choices whn concerned with 2 mechanics thy suggested for Electra
