Gladiator has got the looks & good mileage too but the thread here about the quality of alloys has got me thinking.Has Yamaha done anything to improve the quality of the alloys or they are still the same ?
I have heard about Yamaha A.S.S. not being upto the mark & problems about spares not being immediately available. How much of this is true?
Had spoken to the dealer here to check out the price & he seemed ok.

I had always heard nice things about Hero Honda dealers & their A.S.S but the dealer here has really put me off.Had called the dealer here to check out the price & he told me I will have to pay 7000/- for insurance & registration charges for Glamour.Assuming that the insurance would cost about 1100-1200 Rs & the road tax being 5% should be around 2500/-, he is charging almost 3000/- extra.I fail to understand this.

          Gladiator
          Pros:
          1. Smooth engine
          2. Very very comfortable for tall riders.
          3. Can corner like hell and is the most confidence inspiring between the three.

          Cons:
          1. Mileage drops if thrashed hard.
          2. Low end torque can cause some problem with heavy pillions and riding round the city.
          3. Electrical and some minor issues that crop up time to time.

My views:The Gladiator is an R15 for those who cant afford it. It feels as stable, can corner as hard(ah well...almost) and most of the time sounds the same as the R15. As a complete package it is an engineering marvel.

          Discover
          Pros:
          1. Decent mileage even under thrashing.
          2. Bit more practical than the Gladiator.
          3. Torquey enough to lug you and a pillion around anywhere.Wont ask for frequent gear shifts in traffic situations.

          Cons:
          1.Aging looks.
          2.4 gears only.
          3. Seating position isnt apt for tall riders.

My views: The Discover is a no nonsense fun commuter. It doesnt shout it's name but does the job and does it well. It is as good in the city as the Gladiator is on the highways.

You should consider the P135LS instead of the Discover.

            couldnt agree more...
P135 suits almost all your requisites IMO...

                @ nightwing,

Just saw your blog.Shouldn't I be worried about the engine rusting & a few other reliability issues you have mentioned in your Gladiator?

There are problems with every bike. They are all machines remember. And mine's 4 year old. My experience with Yamaha has taught me the fact that they are very moody bikes. One day everything would be fine and running the other day something or the other will decide to conk off. Not that I am saying that this happens all the time.
Plus the knowledge and the effort of Yamaha service has been questionable in dealing with my Gladiator's niggles.
As regards rusting is concerned, you just need to take good care of the bike. In my case, the Gladiator that I have is 4 years old of which she has been with me for only the last 1.5 years. The rusting problem occurred long before I had her.
All the issues that occur in the Gladiator have been well documented in the Ownership thread and most of them have a complete solution. So we have your back on that.

If you have your heart set on the Gladiator then dont think twice. This is the most complete bike that you can buy.
I am lucky enough to own both the Discover and the Gladiator. At times I feel the Discover's better. It will put a smile on your face the moment you start it.
But there have been times when my Gladiator has stopped in the nick of time and I have lived to see the light of another day. The Discover couldn't have done that. Take my word for it.
For this reason above all,the Gladiator, despite it's follies,is the better choice.

What you need to do is get a test ride of the P135LS and the Gladiator and find out which one suits you better.
                  Your call.......

I will suggest you to choose one and only Gladiator. What a love look and the speed. If you love speed with beauty go for Gladiator.

I would say that the gladiator is a better bike just because the discover feels too old.. and YAMAHA screams out more then bajaj does... But thats just me. Bro, you'll have to decide what you want. But the Gladiator is better in a way and the Discover is good in a way...

Its up to you to decide..

Read that after the launch of YBR, Yamaha is going to launch the Yamaha SZ in the month of June.Is this bike going to replace the Gladiator or will the Gladiator continue to be sold ?

Also, no one has recommended the Glamour .Any particular reasons for that.

Well, the glamour is a 100CC bike and it only has had its stickers changed in all this time.. and out of the choices, the Gladiator comes first when compared to the 3, then the discover and last the glamour...

                            glamour is dead last... lol

Also, can someone tell me about the glamour FI? Is it worth it?

Glamour is not a 100cc bike. It's a 125cc bike which produces 9 PS of power. It does return better fuel efficiency than the other two bikes.

You should also consider P135 as it's a more modern and considerably more powerful/efficient too.Do test ride it and decide for yourself.
