As you said TVS Super Excel is great for town traffic. It has proved to be a very reliable gearless bike for many many years. It can take a lot of abuse anyday and will still keep going. Only problem is that it looks totally dated. Otherwise ok.

If you are asking for Indian companies then we have TVS and Mahindra. Tvs has wide range of gearless vehicles. Scooty's are good for city but not sure if they can offer comfort for 45km rides. Excel is the best, I feel. The new streak is pretty decent with wide tires and is not so heavy as its rivals. I feel you can have streak in your mind. Pls stay away from the Pep+. Not that I hate but also it is not so reliable. Brakes on the pep+ are the worst!

As Mr.shrinathrao said mahindra's rodeo is good. Definitely you'll not find many on the roads but the vehicle is very good. The problem is that mahindra was never known to be a 2-wheeler manufacturer. But the vehicle is very stable, has strong body and wide tires. As far as mileage is concerned all gearless bikes offer pretty much the same. Maybe a difference of 2-3kms. All give bewteen 40-45.

Sir, pls do take test drives and go for the one which you feel is comfortable. Do keep us updated.

Try TVS Wego or Suzuki Access

take a test ride of both...

Go for TVS Wego. It will give you best comfort for your age. It has got larger 12 inch wheels compared 10 inch in Activa. It has got gas shocks and more wheelbase compared to other scooters. Also its seats are much more comforable than other scooters in the market. It has got easy center stand, mobile and battery charger under the seat and external fuel filler. I went through the entire "Gearless Scooter" thread on the Team-BHP site and I distilled the information on that site into the summary below.


First though, I would like to state that I am an older rider myself( though I have not reached 73 yet and I am quite a way off!) and I have made the mistake of buying an unsuitable bike based on my experience as a youth. ( I bought a 150 cc bike based on the fact that I used to ride a 400 cc bike when younger).



What I would recommend most is: Test ride the scooter before you buy, if you can, ride it for 45 KM and see how you feel about it.


Second: Reliability is important, so try as far as possible to go with Honda Activa or Dio or Aviator ( I use both the Activa and Aviator ). TVS Pep+ and Streak also seem to be good according to others; Wego is a new model so we dont know how good it is. I cannot comment on Suzuki Access. Kinetic, now called Mahindra does not have a good history.


Third: Gearless scooters are inherently inefficient. If a bike gives 55 KM per litre, a gearless scooter will give only 35 Km per liter, but that is the price you pay for the luxury of gearless.


Fourth: Seat height and weight of the scooter is important. You can also go for Hero Honda Pleasure.

Summary (from what was said on Team-BHP):

• Go for HMSI (Honda) Activa/Aviator/Dio. New Activa and New Aviator have 110 cc engine and other small pluses. Dio has the old 102 cc engine.
• Aviator has higher seat height.
• Hero Honda Pleasure has the same drivetrain as the old Activa, size is suited to petite women.
• Expect long waiting periods when buying a Honda scooter.
• Expect mileage of around 40+ kmpl depending on driving style. Can even be in the mid-thirties. Generally trouble free. No parts shortage.

• TVS Pep+ and Streak seem to have good reputations. Mileage 50 or so.

• Suzuki Access brakes weak. Lights weak. Mileage 38 kmpl or so. Same bad dealer attitude and waiting period.

• Kinetic/Mahindra Flyte a good scooter, good for petite women, numerous quality problems with petrol tank and indicator lights. Bad service by Kinetic. No positive stories after Mahindra takeover. Mileage can be 27-32.

• Forget Bajaj

• TVS Wego likely to be a hit if TVS plays it right.

@ Thread Starter: We yesterday rode Suzuki Access 125 from Delhi to Dehradun. I must tell you, it is a potent, stable, comfortable ride. forget anything that the world says about Access, take my words- Buy an Access.

It has the power (who said that we need to use all that we have. More is never enough) and is comfortable. along side, if it could sustain our rough riding, for 250+ kms, it surely can be good for you too.

I would suggest Honda Activa New or Aviator, or Suzuki Access. Choose among these 3, because these three look really classy with great reliability. Mahindra/Bajaj/TVS don't match the reliability of non gearless bikes as Suzuki and Honda. Regarding TVS Vego, it vibrates so much even at standstill, you are actually buying a free massaging chair!

I would suggest only Honda and Suzuki for peace of mind. Leave the rest for modders and racers

You will keep on smiling when you are on ACCESS when you have pillion.
It effortlessly pulls the weight! accelration is good.

Brakes are OK, when compared to Disc-versioned Aviator, otherwise...I felt all scooters have weak brakes.

Mileage, I belive scooters mosly used ar for short distance purposes, So mileage isnt a big concern here unless it gives less than 35kmpl. And all the scoots give more than 35kmpl easily.

My personal opinion is that Activa's waiting period isnt worth for it, come on 100days???

I too had to buy a scooter for my dad...started with DIO via Rodeo - Aviator and ended at ACCESS.
