    Hello Friends,

I have been a proud owner of R15, and my buddy has been serving me quiet well since past 1.5 yrs now.

Well since the office is in the crowded place where i cannot twist the accelerator and plus it's just 9 Km from my home, it has put a thought in my mind to see if i can grab a substitute. (yes petrol prices are also one of the playing factors)

Requirements are quiet simple, i need a range of 40Kms, need for speed is there, so anything that is powerful is much appreciate. Budget is 50K.

PS: I cannot see my self doing 40Km, so please suggest a vehicle that can do better than that. Do we have anything like that in India ?

For everything else and for weekends, i am on my R15.
My thoughts are subjected to personal experiences/internet articles. Please read my comment carefully before replying. :)

You could go for Yo Speed the one which comes with a 750w motor its got decent range but you will have to kill your need for speed as it can max give you a mere 45kmph.
Its got a decent range of about 80-60kms.
One of my cousion had brought this but dont know the recent condition of her vehicle. Dont know the exact costs tough it might be around 33K.
But one word which ever bike you go for check with previous customers for battery life because changing them can be a costly affair.

        Hello bro,

All the electric vehicles sold in India are purely aimed at economy. None will go above 45kmph. Still if you want to go ahead go for Yo bikes or BSA. Only these two have been established properly.

But I think you should move to petrol vehicle since you have a need for speed. If mileage isn't a major concern(40-45) go for mahindra rodeo instantly. It performs like no other scooterette. It has a 125cc engine which is damn powerful. Also the short wheel base will enable you to manouver easily in the traffic.

Or if you are still worried about petrol prices(as I am) go for a 100cc bike such as a discover or splendor. These bikes will give you 60+ eyes closed. Also doing 40+ kmph won't be problem in these bikes. I feel a 100cc bike will be practical for your usage and will help you save a lot of money.

          Dear Petrol powered vehicle rider,

Please stay away from electric vehicles. (As of now considering their situation in India.)

My wife is using yo speed for more than two years now. Its a great 'second' bike. If you are going to have only one vehicle, let it be petrol, but if this is a second bike and you have some alternative bike at hand, you can go for it. The max speed it touches now is around 50 (with 54kg wife). Mileage is about 40-5-, but we never drain it completely. Wife uses it for 20-25 kms daily, and then it is on charge for some 3-5 hours. Very rarely it will give any problems, and the mechs are good enough to attend to. Removing punctures is bit tricky, and you really have to watch the puncureman's back, because as soon as they spot a electric bike, they go 'yeah!! Let's screw its electrical system!'

The cheaply priced 250W are pain in the ass for anything about 2-5 kms. Buy the yo speed or its bigger sister, the yo exl.

            India's Only No-Petrol two-seater - YO EXL ER

Its a great money saver, as the costs are hardly noticable in the monthly electric bill. The charger's pin is like our regular iron or mixer pin, not the heavyweight one. So it can pop in into any electric socket. I have bought a 5 meter electric cord to extend the socket to charge the bike from 1st floor. Takes two persons comfortably (54+75kg) without losing breath. Only thing needed is servicing in 3-5 months (costing 125Rs) and air in tyres (filled once in 2-3 weeks).

the need for speed cannot be satisfied with any indian electric vehicle. You better get one imported or buy a 100cc.

But I would suggest you that you better use that 50k in hand for petrol. You can have a lot of petrol in that money.

Nice info there sir, i really appreciate your help, some research about the EXL ER suggest this is the fastest electric scooter available. Nice, i think i have found the one

Bro, it's not a issue of riding the R15 slow, for driving just 9Kms in full traffic, i get quiet bored using a powerful bike like R15. Plus i think the waste of petrol just to commute 18Kms everyday is just too much in my opinion. Looks like Yo EXL ER is just a fit match for me.

Why not a cycle? A good cycle will be way more fun than a electric bike + its environment friendly + costs of running nil + its also good for health. U can grab a good geared one with a nice suspension set-up for around 5.5k. If u can shell around 30k than a Trek or a mid-range firefox will be Awesome. A good cycle will be a bigger head turner than a R15 .

@riot: The best option(in my opinion), environment friendly

+1 for cycle . it may actually get you faster if road is too congested. in a good light bike 9km will feel like nothing and the fitness you get along is priceless.

btw i had really bad exps with frnd electric bike. it was yo , but cant remember model number
                        1) very badly proportioned weight distribution. so when rear tyre gets punctured(very cheap tyre btw) it s really hard to move bike

                        2) mechanics are not easily avl. once in highway it refused to start and no repairshop could detect whats wrong. latr mech told fuse went kaput.

                        3) 'quality' in 'built quality' dont exist . a slowest accedent badly damages those cheap plastics.

                        4) battery life keeps detoriating rapidly.

ultimately she sold it and bought hh pleasure(wanted lighter bike) and is much happy with it

Why no cycle ? Because i am trying to promote electric vehicle use in my family. Reason my wife is pushing for Honda Duo, and if i grab this, she might be tempted to grab a electric vehicle for herself as well. I see electric vehicles are not upto the mark right now, but we are heading towards the right direction, and things will get better as we as a customer buy their products. (*hint* More money for R&D *hint* )

I saw news about TVS shutting down the production of Electric vehicle, because of low demand. We need to push this products forward, cause you like it or not, they are our future vehicles...

BHP or PS is going to be history 100 yrs from now or may be sooner.
