hey guys i'm in a bit of a fix right now cause i've been endowed upon with the task of deciding on a scooterette for my mom(cause i'm the only biker in the family) the only problem being that i don't have much experience in them ,except for the HH pleasure, so i was wondering if u could help me out

    the requirements are -
    1)easy to ride(cause she's new to driving)
    2)easy on maintainence
    3)reliable
4)power is not a significant factor
5)mileage no bar(though i would like to know how much to expect, so pls mention if possible)
    6) the cheaper the better

    Thanx
    The purpose of biking -
100cc- to get from point A to point B
    125cc- to get there fast
150cc- to have some fun while getting there
200+cc- to start from point A and forget when point B passed by

It's not the ride but the rider that matters!

      Hello there,

HH pleasure is a good one. It has optimum power and mileage. Maintainence shouldn't be a problem since HH service is always good. Spares will also be cheap compared to its rivals.

Honda activa and aviator are good and highly reliable. Build is better than HH. But both these are have high seats comparitively. Mileage is on the lower side(35-40). Again service is not a problem.

Suzuki access has a 125cc power plant. Pretty powerful and very stable scooterette. It has wide tires so road grip is pretty good. It is a bit bulky and heavy than the others. Looks are not that striking.

Mahindra rodeo has a sleek body and looks very nice. Again it has a 125cc engine. Though not much on the roads I feel it is a good vehicle. Also many automags have only positively commented on the rodeo. I am not sure about the mileage and mahindra's service. Will definitely be easy to ride.

As far as mileage is concerned, all the scooterettes give mileage between 35-45. You can't expect anymore.

I would never suggest anything from scooty family. Very practical and cheap scooterettes no doubt. But those skinny tires and average brakes don't give confidence to the rider. Also the build is so flimsy.

Now the choice also depends on your mother's height. Ask her to test drive each one and she'll let you know which one is easy to control and comfortable. Then make a choice depending on your mother's wish and opinions from xbhp.

        .
Mahindra rodeo is a excellent bike as the sym engine is really outstanding , I am getting a mileage of around 35 before first service and post service 43-45 in city and 48 on highways.

Parts are cheaper as compared to honda and hero honda. A excellent bike with good power to take on anything plus a good ground clearance

Its a very perfect reply. As far as HH products, you cant go wrong with the spare parts prices.

Honda's quailty is way better than all the rest, but seats are a little high. The average will be around 38-40.

Mahindra's Rodeo isnt a popular scooterette yet. so cant actually claim on that.

I have ridden quite a few TVS Scooties, they are surely light but as harishkumar said the tires aren't confidence inspiring and the brakes are like a modern day bicycle.

Also if your mother can test ride each of these personally then nothing like it.

If you go in for a honda then it will be a safer bet as the vehicle will stick to ground while riding and the quality will be dependable. But i guess the waiting periods are very high.

Who says the rodeo doesnt stick on the roads perfectly, in fact its braking and ground holding is better than dio, activa and access, i have rode all 3 in full rains, wet roads, and heating roads where the mercury touches 43 degrees and the rodeo was better than the above 3.

It is one vehicle preferred by both sexes and the front fuelling facility is a boon to aged and retired people.

I would suggest the Suzuki Access 125. Its slightly expensive when compared to the activa/ aviator etc, but its quality at a price. Honda scooters esp the dio/activa tend to rattle and become rough post 8k kms. I have all these products Dio, Activa, Scooty and Access. The access is the newest of the lot and even after 3 years and 13k kms its still purrs like a new bike. This wasnt the case with the Activa/Dio which have clocked much lesser then the access. So look no further get the Access.

Err...I've an Activa that's put 14K on ODO, well it doesn't rattle.

If you can keep patience in the waiting period..

                    Activa DLX (Combined braking model)

Else, Mahindra Rodeo is really a gem. Fits the bill perfectly. Fast, Light, Practical, Big under-seat storage, nice engine, front fuelling. My Sis-in-law (4'11", light frame, 1st time rider.) is a proud owner of the Rodeo for the last 3 months. Expect 40+ FE but only post 1st service.

hey got mom to try an activa but it seems too high(as in the seat) cos her feet were just touching the ground, so i guess it's outta the picture for now
am gonna take her to mahindra and honda(for the dio, i think it's a bit lower in terms of seat height, dunno for sure) dealers tomorrow to see which one exactly fits the bill...
if nothing works then next up in line is TVS and HH
thanx for the replies, will keep u posted...

P.S- has anyone here bought or tried the new TVS wego? seems to be good feature-wise considering the zero maintainence battery,an external fuel port(available only in rodeo till now), LED tail lamps.....

EDIT: Jus saw a comparo between the wego, the duro and the activa, courtesy overdrive http://tvswego.com/overdrive-comparison.asp and it clearly declares the wego as a winner... this has got me thinking....

The Wego has an external fuel port but the rider still has to get off the scooter to open/close the fuel-tank lid, whereas the Rodeo can be refuelled with the rider never getting off the scooter.

The comparison you read is on tvswego.com. I dont think any other scooter could have won that comparo. And anyways, the comparo has Mahindra duro (Based on old Nova) and not Rodeo (Based on newer Flyte).
