  • The older I get-The faster I was!

Hello to all of you. What a great forum!I have joined because my wife and I will be coming to Deli in March.I have been on the Adventure Rider forum and then found this one.SO impressed by the rides some of you have taken on small bikes. No one on the ADV site has anything on you guy's!Just goes to show that you don't need an UBBER bike to tour.
A little about us.As you see in my profile,we have 12 bikes. We don't want to have 12 bikes,We can't ride 12,but with the market here being so soft,we have not been able to sell any for a fair price.I am posting a pic of my DRZ 400.I bought it set up the way you see it.It is an example of the bike market here.I paid less for this bike than he had in upgrades on it.I didn't cheat him-I gave his asking price!Hard times here for many.
My first bike was in 1967.I grew up in the SanFrancisco bay area and it was home to the U.S. Bultaco distributor, and a friend worked there! He sold me his Metralla 250.40 years later,he told me why it was so fast.(He worked in the warehouse!)That bike is gone-But 15 years ago I found one here in Washington in boxes.Took a few years to put it back together and it is a little gem.
Have to go now -and I'll continue posting soon.
    Tom

Hello and welcome... Hope you have a good time chatting with us...

I have just 1 question though... You have been a rider for the past 50 years, you are based in the USA and you are a tourer... And still not 1 HD in 50 years :O how come... I am slightly confused... Not that I am crazy after Harley's but I do respect them...

Thanks for the warm welcome! We are excited about our upcoming trip over there. It has been almost 40 years since my last trip to India! My wife has never been!I can't even imagine how much it has changed. In the coming day's I will be posting lot's of bike pic's that I'm sure you will all enjoy.
This post will have some links to some Youtube video's.The first one was done by a friend on his trip down from Seattle to my fathers house near San Francisco. He worked for me in Seattle(I was a Hardwood flooring contractor for 35 years)and came to help install wood floors with me.He is a bike nut too!So after the floors were done we all went for a ride over the hills to the beach. This is the short video he put together of that ride. These are some of the roads that I learned to ride on 40+ years ago.TOOOO! much fun.He is riding my wifes Drz SM,she on her 800 Monster and I'm on #2 We were down there for 3 years working on my fathers house after his passing and got spoiled riding there. Some of the best roads and weather in the country.

The other link is to a video of the La Ducati Day sound off.It is a benifit for the La Honda California Fire department.(The folks that come and help us when we crash!)
In it I won! the sound off with my '93 888 factory race bike. Please enjoy the music!
YouTube - La Ducati Day Music Challenge Part 4
So the story on the 888 is-I bought a '93 888 in '95 and in keeping with the prime directive(If it ain't broke-let's upgrade!)I saw an add in Cycle News in '99."Parting out Doug Polen's '93 race bike"I bought all the parts with the exception of the well used motor. What you see is 4 years work putting it together.I built a de-tuned motor (Full race motors liked to crack the cases @ 12,000 RPM)My build makes 100HP @ 8,000 & 115 @ 10,000
                      Plenty for me!

I have learned one thing about restoring bikes. If you do too good a job-They are too nice to ride!(The Ducati 888 is way more capable than I am at my age!)and too much history to ride.
Now we can get into MY Time Machine!
This is a rebuild of my first real motorcycle! AND I ride it!!!
'67 Bultaco Metralla Mk2 Kit America
Now about Harley's-You my see that I am somewhat into performance
Sorry! Riding in a straight line for houres just doesn't do any thing for me.
And they don't do well in corners. HaHa!
Sorry-I just had to put this up

What a great way to get to GOD-On two wheels!Namaste
                          As I explore this forum,
I become overwhelmed ,there is so much of everything here! The tour reports are great!I'm having fun!
                          I see the wonderful
relationship that you all have with your motorcycles and the sport.
It is a riding context that I can hardly wait to share!
                          Tom
