been riding since i was 16.., am 41 now.
used to ride a lot & i mean a LOT in my college / younger days.
kids these days grow on doraemons, chota bheems, of the world.
i grew up on eddie lawson, wayne gardner, steve hislop, kevin schwantz, wayne rainey for bikes & walter rohrl, juha kankkunen, ayrton senna, alain prost, collin mcrae for cars.
after marriage & kid etc. family responsibilities crept in... freedom went outta the window ;-)
am in IT field & hence 'blood, sweat & code', extended backbreaking hours in front computer screens, deranged working hours & burning midnight oil for software development / deployment, is pretty much the daily grind.
moved out of south mumbai [girgaum, opera house] after marriage & relocated to thane.
been a road-warrior / daily commuter for years - clock about 80kms every day to-&-fro to work on the avenger.
used to ride a vfr250r in collage days [dad's money - for the bike & fuel both]
was in possession of a royal enfield 350 [1962 model - handed over by my grandpa, to dad, to me...]
then, fell on hard times... and over the years, had to go in for a bajaj chetak > hero honda CD100 > splendor [over 3.5 lakh kms in 9 yrs] > and presently on avenger 200 - all, every single one of these cared-for as my very own child, mind you.
life is settled now to a large extent [read as mid-life crisis] ;-)
have test-rode innumerable bikes over these years but none caressed & cajoled my heart like the vfr250r has done back then - perhaps i am spoiled for life - thanks to her!
about a year ago, a friend got the honda cbr250 & since he was on tour for a month, knowing my passion for motorcycles, appointed me the custodian of his cbr250.
i rode her every day from thane to andheri for over a month & things started to change - yes i had completely busted wrists & eternally painful shoulder & lumbar-back - that crouching stance on cbr250 is not that good for a 6ft guy u know....
one day started from home for work, but said, to hell with it, just pointed her towards Lonavla & that was the beginning of the end. :-)
enroute on the highway, she came pretty close to my heart as what the vfr250r had been, decades ago.
a decision was made.
i ALWAYS wanted to explore my fabulous country, on 2-wheels - that was & is my dream - all along i've been suppressing my dream - for social, family & personal reasons.
but i've decided to live my dream, @least in parts, now.
@ my age, i prolly have another 20 yrs of biking left in me.
i am planning to invest in a duke390 or a ninja650 in next couple of months.
will try to live-out my dream & leave behind my bike to my son, as a legacy.
want to do the golden quad trip + the leh-ladakh trip + the shimla > kalpa > kaza trip too.
dont know what might be possible & what not.
as they say, 4-wheels mode the body... 2-wheels move the soul.
cheers!
