    Hi,

I am Rohit Dwivedi from Nagpur. Though I am not new to the forum but was never active on it. I own a 2001 rx135, 1998 bullet, 2008 hero thunder mtb. All second hand to keep the owning costs low. Also I co-own a karizma (owned by my friend, ridden by me) and a honda eterno(father's).

Civil engineer by profession and working for a road construction company I have my sites within 150km from Nagpur. I mostly ride to my sites alternating between the machines i have as I don't get fixed weekend offs for rides. I get to ride on wide highways to narrow twisting roads through jungles. In all commuting to work is the best part of my job second only to the feeling you get when one rides on the roads and bridges built by you. Ah the wide grin inside the helmet when you roar on the freshly laid asphalt. Just awesome.

I learnt riding on my dad's Lml vespa and am still greatful to him for first teaching me how to wear a helmet before handing me the keys.

I have been reading a lot about tinkering with the bikes. Will get my hands dirty soon.

    Finally my bucketlist:
    1. To build a custom motorcycle myself, a cafe racer to be precise
    2. To own an RD 350, yezdi roadking and duke 390
    3. To atleast ride an Indian chief, ktm 1190 and a Triton.
    4. To ride to every state and UT of India.
    5. To have sex on a motorcycle
    6. To die in a motorcycle accident after accomplishing all of the above.

Would love to get to know other xbhpians from orange city and those passing through. Would be great to have a Nagpur G2G.

    I, the rider

Welcome to the forum, so you are the ones who lay the road. Now, tell us why the roads go to the dogs every 2 years once they are laid. Please enlighten us on the mechanics of road laying.

                Because of the following
                1. Poor construction due to greediness of gubmin officers, their lack of will to have quality checks to prevent insufficient compaction(of utmost importance and most ignored)-lesser passing of rollers in simple terms, inferior material, improper mixes
                2. Overloaded vehicles- every road is designed for a certain tonnage and damage to the road is calculated by an empirical formula (w1/w)^4, where w is the design load, w1 is the actual load. So if a road is for 10 tonnes design and vehicles of weight 11 tonnes are passing the damaging factor will be 1.1^4. One of the village roads i had constructed got messed up solely because of overloaded dumper traffic of irrigation work. The road was of 10 tonne capacity and the traffic plying was in excess of 25 tonnes.
                3. Imroper and untimely maintenance. A stitch in time saves nine.
                4. Incorrect Design assumptions-like traffic density and tonnage.
                5. If you see an isolated pothole on an otherwise smooth road it is because of diesel or petrol spillage which dissolves the bitumen hence the asphalt disintegrates and water penetrates the below layers, which creates a pothole.
                6. An asphalt roads needs 24 hrs of curing for setting while concrete roads require 28 days of curing before they can be opened for traffic. Using them early damages the top layer which becomes a pothole slowly.

I know the pain when one rides on roads full of potholes and the pleasure of smooth road rides. I try to make the ones i am involved in smooth. And you can use RTI if you are serious and really concerned. Works like a charm.
