  • Hi, This is Vishak from Bangalore

I joined xbhp some time back. Started biking with a Bajaj Caliber and graduated to Pulsar 150 later modified it with Karizma Bore, Piston, polished & ported head, FF exhaust, Smaller rear sprockets and enjoyed for 2 years, Did a few long rides like Bangalore - Kanyakumari with the pulsar. In 2012 bought the CBR250R NON ABS. Romance began and enjoyed a few long rides to my native place (Nagercoil, Kanyakumari) etc. Very good sport tourer ideal for long rides. In my view its front heavy and handling in city is not great, comes with soft suspension setup ideal for touring, but high speed cornering on road with undulations can give some scary moments. Also engine being over square, low end torque seems to be on the lower side, but once it crossed 5000 rpm its total bliss. After 14000 kms of romance I decided to move on the Yamaha R15 and got the 2014 version 2 model on January 2014. Riding style is aggressive with better city driveability compared to CBR, but long rides are not upto the CBR level,be it ride comfort power etc. Anyways cant expect ride comfort from a super sport style bike like R15. Last week had a ride to koli Hills with my brother who too owns R15 V2. 70 hair pin bends satisfied our corner cravings. On highway bike cruised comfortably at 110 kmph speed and on a steep down hill section could touch 147 kmph (All speedo indicated speeds).

R15 Version 2 Sprocket Mod - Somehow felt that R15 was well short geared. So yesterday went to Orion Motors, Koramangala, Bangalore and got the R15 Version 1 sprocket (42 teeth) and got it fitted with a friend's help (mechanic). The chain being endless, the revets had to be removed and 2 links had to be removed. The chain was linked with a FZ link. Lubed it and evening took her for a ride on the highway. The overall gear ratios have become much taller. She didnt struggle to pull from stand still on first gear. But on big speed brakers i used to initially manage with 2 nd gear, but now have to come to 1st gear. Now the 5th gear ratio has become similar to original 6th gear ratio. She used to do 60kmph speed at 4000 rpm on 6th gear before and now she does the same speed at the same rpm in 5th gear itself. Had to pull her till 70kmph on 5th gear and then shift to 6th and boy she was pulling nicely till 110kmph and cruising smoothly. But beyond 110kmph she started strugling. I had to bring her to 5th gear and accelerate to 125 kmph and then move to 6th. On 6th she is able to maintain this speed but not able to accelerate past this.

I weigh 65kgs and am 5 feet 6 inches tall. I would recommend this for people who drive alone (Without pillion) like to do long distances and cruise at around 100 to 110 kmph speed. I am not sure whether this will suite for people on very heavy side.
